Reflection as a Multigrade Teacher

Teaching in all areas may come with different kind of challenges, but with multigrade
teacher, you must think differently and creatively. If I would be assigned as a multigrade teacher
in a remote area, I would take this as a great opportunity to learn in a very diverse community. A
multigrade teacher may be a bit challenging than other teachers but it gives a good position to
encounter different types of students with various beliefs, ideas, and cultures that may also help
me as a teacher understand and relate to it.

It is challenging in a way that I need to make distinctive materials and strategies every day
for my students. I need to adjust and adapt immediately so I can teach effectively to my students.
It may be so easily to said than done but having a positive and enthusiasm spirit can make
everything easy and light. In reality there are advantages, disadvantages and challenges of
multigrade class which teachers concerned are facing and it’s a task which is part of a game in life.
And one of the practical way that I can do is that I must balance my time effectively and prepare
variety of activities to keep all groups of students engaged in the multigrade environment which is
an opportunity to develop new and more effective teaching processes and be flexible and use
various teaching methods, according to their specific teaching need at the time. This not only
supports the educational worth of the teacher and serves the national curriculum goals, but also
represent flexible methods that encourage children to be independent and develop their
personalities.
This can be very challenging to multigrade teachers. There may be a lot of drawbacks to
multigrade teaching but many are addressed by exploring the philosophy behind intentionally
combining ages and grades, and by adopting teaching practices that are best suited to such a
grouping. And given the potential advantages of this approach, our education system can take
focus and give priority to train teachers, develop instructional materials, and develop curriculum
that would match multigrade teaching and learning.
