Charlie and the chocolate factory

Book review
Koen van Rooij
TA2A
Roald Dahl’s idea to write Charlie and the Chocolate factory
Roald Dahl came up with the idea of writing Charlie and the chocolate factory, when his son went to
boarding school. He went to a lot of different boarding schools, but something was special about the
last boarding school he went to. At the Repton boarding school the pupils had to give their opinion
on different kind of chocolates in exchange for free chocolate. This gave him the idea of the buy
chocolate and win something and from that idea he wrote the book.

Fiction or non-fiction
The book is fiction, because the things that happen in the book is not based on a real story and it
can’t be done/exist in the real world.

Genres
The genres of this book are adventure and fantasy. They go through all kinds of different adventures
definitely in the different rooms in the factory is where the most things happen and everything that
happens in there is of course fantasy

Theme
The theme for this book has to be indulgence. Four of the five kids were way to greedy in their own
way.

Plot
Willy Wonka’s factory closes for years after people try to steal his recipes. 20 years go by without
anything happening. Until he makes the announcement that 5 golden tickets are hidden in chocolate
bars all around the globe. If you find a ticket, you and four others were allowed to have a tour around
the factory and have an infinite supply of chocolate bars. Charlie(A young and really poor boy) buys a
chocolate bar for his birthday, he opens it and there is nothing inside. At this moment 4/5 golden
tickets have been found and Charlie didn’t have enough money to buy another chocolate, until the
next day. He came home from school on a very snowy and cold day. He was so cold and hungry,
because of the winter season day and sees something shining under the snow. It was money. He was
very exited and gave it to his very old grandpa. He told Charlie to buy one more chocolate bar from
the shop he opened it and the last golden ticket was in there and invited his grandpa to go with him.

They go onto different adventures and one by one all of the kids disappear, because they do stupid
things. The first one falls into the chocolate river and gets pulled into a big pipe. The second one eats
bubble gum that wasn’t fully ready to eat yet. The third gets pulled into a big garbage can where
normally the bad nuts go in, because she tried to take one of the special trained squirrel and the
fourth one went into a computer that would directly take you to the place on the tv, but something
went wrong and the Oompa Loompas had to get him out. The only one left was Charlie and he
finished the entire tour and got Willy Wonka’s factory.
