I have been working as a Network Administrator deployed in Computer Cell on behalf of Sultan
Qaboos IT Chair since 25th May 2017.
I have played a major role in development, planning and working of various projects and
operations of UET Network Infrastructure
Operational Work:
 Installation/deployment and troubleshooting of LAN related Issues.
 Planning and management of the communication, networking, routing and security
aspects.
 Managing the Huawei S12704, S6730, S5720 Switches and Cisco Catalyst 2950, 2960
3550,3560 Switches.
 Responsible to resolve the Huawei USG6620 Firewall related issues.
 Managing the Core Network Infrastructure of UET.
 Ensure the remote access of LAN resources by managing SSL VPNs.
 Configuration and troubleshooting of port forwarding on PfSense firewalls and Mikrotik
Router to access the applications of LAN from Internet.
 Ensure the 24*7 availability of Internet in VC Office and Conference Room with the
mechanism of failover on MikroTik Router.
 Troubleshoot the issues of University Users for eduroam Wi-Fi Internet.
 Troubleshooting of NVR for the smooth operation of CCTV Surveillance System.
 Installation and troubleshooting PRTG NMS.
 Installation and Troubleshooting of VMware ESXi Server.
 Provide the remote IT Support to Sub Campuses including Faisalabad, KSK, Rachna and
Narowal.
 Troubleshooting of Email related issues.

Network Upgradation and Expansion:
Growth in network traffic and demand from users for more bandwidth was constant challenge.
To address these issues, the university had decided to upgrade its Wired Network infrastructure. I
Played a key role with team lead in RFP Preparation, Network Design, Deployment and
Installation of Passive Equipment and Configuration of Active Equipment of this Project. Some
distinguished work is mentioned below.
• Project was deployed for almost 4000 users.
• 02 Core Switches, 10 Distribution Switches and 116 Access Switches were deployed.
• Huawei USG 6620 Firewall deployed for Security Measures.
• Almost 500 UTP Cable Rolls and 12km Fiber Optic Cable was deployed.
• Migration of UET’s Application Servers and users to new Network.

CCTV Surveillance Solution in Admin:

CCTV Surveillance is one of the most critical and important things now a days. There were some
security issues in admin department. To overcome these issues CCTV Surveillance solution has
been deployed in admin department. In this regard one NVR and 26 security cameras are
installed.

PfSense Firewall Deployment:

There was the requirement to access CCTV NVRs and some applications from outside the
University via Internet. PfSense (Virtual Firewall) has been deployed to meet these requirements
via port forwarding feature.

Voice Over IP(VOIP) Solution:

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also called IP telephony, is a method and group of
technologies for the delivery of voice communication. It is the replacement of conventional
Telephone Exchange. VoIP solution has been deployed in UET recently. In this Solution two
Voice Gateways, 40 Video Phones and 200 IP Phones has been deployed.

Network Deployment in Narowal Campus:

New Network has been deployed in Narowal Campus around 1 year ago. In this solution three
departments and one hostel are connected with main admin block via point to multi point
wireless solution. Five Fortinet switches and Huawei Firewall.

Solar System Interconnectivity:

University has been installed solar system in some departments of main campus. There was the
basic need to connect all solar inverters through Network. We designed the Network for solar
inverters so that they can communicate with controller to run smooth operations.

Smart University Wi-Fi:

Around 2 year ago Smart University Wi-Fi project had been launched in UET. In this project 730
Access Points, Access & Core Switches, Firewall, Radius Server and Active Directory server
had deployed. I had played a major role in the design, creation of users in Active Directory,
Authentication mechanism of users, Policies on firewall, Configuration on Switches and overall
execution of this project.

Network Management System (PRTG):

NMS is one of the most important things for the smooth operations of any Network. I had
deployed a PRTG NMS for UET Network, In this NMS we can monitor the health and working
status either down or UP, live traffic graphs and history of last year bandwidth utilization of
every link, status of every device in network including firewall, Switches and proxy servers.

Biometric Attendance System:

Attendance system in UET have been changed from manual to online with biometric
authentication. I had played a major role in the deployment of attendance machines and make
sure the connectivity with current LAN Network of UET, so that the server can communicate
with machines to fetch the daily logs of attendance.

VMware Virtualization:
Virtualization is one of the latest technologies that we have deployed in UET first time in
history. With the deployment of this technology physical servers have been shifted to virtual
machines. We have used ESXI Server for the implementation of Virtualization in UET. We have
reduced overall cost of IT resources in terms of power consumption, space and quantity of
servers by implementation of this technology.
Bus Surveillance System:
The purpose of this project was to monitor the locations of UET Busses in different times. In this
project we have deployed a server in datacenter and make sure the reachability of this server
from internet. Application-level work has been performed by software team of UET.

SMD Display for Notifications:

SMD display is the latest technology used to display images and videos for advertisements. We
have deployed two SMD displays in UET in different locations and make sure the
communication of these SMDs from cloud. These SMDs are used to display the notifications of
all events in UET.
