Chapter 3
Internship Outcome/ Issue Analysis
3.1 Problems/Challenges/Identified in the Work Place
 Adaptability with the work place: as I was the only intern, I couldn’t gather my pace
with the work place for the first time. It was very uncomfortable to move across the floor
in business hours.
 Lacking of customer Information: The problems that I faced mainly when filling
accounts opening forms was: There was lacking of customer Information of which was
always difficult to find. Many customers did not provide their (NID) National identity
card, so for that reason I needed check the data base of NID issuing site to verify their
information .Which was very time consuming.
 Lack of proper maintenance of files: unorganized files were very difficult to find
because they were placed in a bank store room. And more importantly they don’t arrange
their A/C opening form in consecutive sequences.
 Everyone tries to make me feel like I work for them: On a regular basic I was called
from different section to reduce their workload. And assigning me the task some of them
spared their leisure time in business hours. And sometime when I was doing one task
someone else would come and ask me to do another thing like there is nothing for them
to do.
 Everyone is busy: In day to day business hour everyone is busy doing their job and no
one will help you learn anything. I had to ask for everything and learn by myself and felt
that they are not ready to teach me anything.
 Shortage of printing machines, staff, clerk: when someone command for printing, the
other person cannot print at the same time which is time consuming and inconvenience
for clients. Most of banks operation time no staff will be available to help take any
messages. They will be roaming around here and there unnecessarily. Bank do not
employ necessary number of clerical staffs for doing proper documentations.
 Software running problems: As all bank officers use same software there is always a
network connection problems, which is on a regular basis for which many important days
task have to be postponed, to later dates and times. Which is really inconvenient for the

17
clients and for me as well. I couldn’t print statement when a client asked for it. Because
was no connection and software was updating.
 Lack of providing internal securities: Inside the bank in busy schedule during business
hours things get stolen such as, mobile phones, keys, wallets etc.

3.2 Analyze the Issue Based on Relevant Theory

Upon analyzing all the issues of Dhaka Bank Ltd (DBL) I have found many relevant theories that
I have so far overcome in my 4 years of BBA courses. Mostly I have found that bank, a financial
institution, is much related to my major course accounting. My analyzing issue is:

Impact of Emerging Information Technology on Auditing

The increase of the use of information technology and organizational computer use require
auditors to gather critical information more efficiently because organizations are now focusing
on to provide more and more electronic evidence to auditors than traditional evidence (paper,
documents). The use of information technology such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), client
server Computing, Internet, Image Processing System, Electronic Fund Transfer etc, end the era
of traditional audit. Now the role of Information Technology in production of audit engagement
is of great interest with the rapid growth of IT application. According to (Mancuso, 1997) as
evidence become more electronic auditors should definitely need to change their auditing
techniques. That’s why the Auditing Standard Board recently issued Statement on Auditing
standards (SAS) No.80 and are now more focusing on the use of computer related audit
procedures (Jarvin Et.AI, 2009) auditors training in information system (curts et al, 2009) and
the role of EDP from financial reporting perspective (Grabski, Morrts, 2011), Auditors should
need to work with IT specialist, so that they have proper IT capabilities for conducting auditing
of different organization. This IT understanding becomes more crucial because auditors are now
faced with accounting transactions of different organizations entirely in electronic from without
any support of paper documentation (Roebuck, 1998)S o this emerging information technology
is now greatly changing the nature and impact of audit which was earlier hugely relied on paper
documents (Deshmukh, Romhine, 2002). So auditors will need to change their traditional audit
approach by focusing more and more on an organization’s e-commerce strategy and perform

18
their audit by using computers (Good, Schultz, Nartraj, 2002). Then it will be easier for them to
properly analyze all the electronic evidence provided by their computerized clients and can
accurately perform their audit procedures.

To relate this thing with my work place I can say like, Dhaka Bank Ltd(DBL) don’t follow IT
auditing, they follow the traditional Audit system, for that they follow audit regulation and they
have an Audit committee to maintain audit department. Traditional auditing is time consuming,
and auditors have to use a number of manual methods for certain functions, as a larger
organization they have higher chance of human error, also data is insecure. So I want to say for
easier and accurately audit procedures Dhaka Bank Ltd (DBL) can follow IT Audit which impact
is more effective than traditional audit system.

3.3 Recommendations
 Ensure proper instruction for interns: proper introduction for the interns while provide
a comfortable work place for interns. So that there is no barrier in getting used to things
in the workplace.
 Allocated specific task and supervisor for interns: by providing single task will make
someone to work effectively and efficiently. And trying to follow time basic task one at a
time will providing satisfactory level of work for new interns.
 Organizations of files in a proper way: all the A/C opening files should be kept
altogether in a line, not here & there. Try to keep the files in a room where the contrast of
light is good.
 Improve software efficiency: the software that bank uses Ultimus needed to be updates
with proper maintenance under specialist supervision. So, that there is no difficulty for
officer to run in business hours.
 Increase security alert: To stop the possible cause of things beings stolen in the banking
hours, security measures should be taken with efficient care. High security cameras
needed to be fit in every corner of the bank. Which will not only reduce goods being
stolen but also provide safety in doing work peacefully.

19
 Provide efficient customer services: the organization should try to provide customer
service in every short period of time. Because Customer’s convenience will help crate
good relation &value with bank
 Provide nearby ATM Booth: so, that customer have the convenience for cash
withdrawal in non-banking hours.
 Ensure proper specialization: By allocation a single task among different task. When
work load is less people can work with perfection.
 Employ satisfaction: Need to increase promotions. Which will motivate employers to
work more efficiently.
 Proper promotional activities: needs to increase advertisement, billboard, and sponsor
for the purpose of promotion which will increase productivity.
 Availability of working tools and machineries: such availability will increase
productivity and convenience to both customer and the employees.

20
Chapter 4
4.1 Conclusion
Dhaka Bank is reputed Commercial Bank it has 94 branches and 3 SME’s which is spread all
over the country including rural areas. All the Commercial bank play an active role in economic
growth. It has wide variety of products and service. It has provide excellent customer service to
grab the customer in this competitive Banking industry.

I have worked in Central compliance Unit, I have seen this unit ensure Compliance standard
which is set by Bangladesh Bank. I have learned lot of activities such as bank information related
issues, Denomination of metal coins, high risk customer issues, query and complain management
etc. CCU ultimate role is to frequently monitor client’s transaction profile and matching it with
actual transaction. Competition between commercial bank is rapidly increasing therefore Dhaka
bank should give more priority to customer interest and needs which will create loyalty towards
them. Training should be arranged for employees at regular interval which will increase
efficiency of the employees. Three month internship period is not enough for proper learning
which a limitation is for me Also I mention few suggestion about some improvement that should
be made in Dhaka Bank. I am confident that I am able to utilize my knowledge and internship
experience in job sector. Overall though my internship experience is not good but I learned how
to deal professionally with people. It is a quiet different experience from my education life
therefore it will be remembered till long time.
