Here’s How It Works:

• Modular Shops have sloping roofs with what are called gable ends. As
we plan and construct your building, we’re going to reference a starting
point, usually in the front, left corner. As we visualize your building, the
gable ends will be at each side, with the non-gable walls at front and
back. Naturally, you can orient your building on your layout as you see
fit, but for construction we need a starting point.

Getting Started 5 Plan Your Wall Features

With so many options planning your building may seem complicated, so Then consider what wall features you want at each Wall segment such

Wall description on each segment around the perimeter of your plan.
Using the planning page, determine the overall size of your building. This will be your “map” of which Walls to construct and where they’ll go.
Use it to measure the space on your layout and determine the size of
your building in units of Wall panels wide and deep. Modular Shops can
be up to 3 Wall panels deep and almost unlimited Wall panels wide.

2 Plan Your Building Height

All the Walls within a building must have the same height. Small
buildings such as sheds and yard buildings tend to have low heights
such as 8 or 10 feet. Buildings that have Loading Docks or loading
doors at railcar height must be 12 feet or taller. Generally the larger
the building, the taller the walls. Lastly, buildings with railcar doors or
buildings with tracks where cars are driven inside, must be 20 feet tall. 6 Decide Which Options You Wish to Model

pieces.

9 Cut Out Pieces

As needed throughout the construction process, cut out the assembly
pieces. For paper only pieces you can use scissors. For poster board
and mat board, it is important to use a sharp knife and straight edge.
Using scissors will force the boards to curl which will result in a poorly
assembled model.

Section 15: Extra Doors and Windows

A few extra doors and windows have been provided. You can cut them
out and glue them to the face of any Wall panel to make simple doors
and windows, or you can inset them in the same fashion as craftsman
doors and windows.
Wrapping Up
Congratulations! You’re finished! Thank you for building our Team Track
Models’ Modular Shops. Use this model over and over to populate
your layout with shops, offices and industrial buildings of all kinds.
Use optional textures such as brick and metal to expand the look.
Experiment with different configurations. And please share your
experience with us and your model railroading friends.
- Best wishes from Aaron and John and Team Track Models.

Section 16: Extending Modular Shops

It is easy to extend the Modular Shops style buildings. Here are four
ways to add on. Use your creativity to make a variety of structures:

1. Add extensions off the gable wall.

To do this, build a second, typicall
shorter or smaller building, and
trim back the roof to be flush with
the end wall that will adjoin the
larger main building.
