2.1. Enclosure
The B105-CB circuit-breaker tank has different openings designed to receive the cir-
cuit-breaker’s components.
Opening (A) receives the movement inlet and supports the active part on the mobile
side.
Radial opening (B) receives a cone fitted with contacts that connect the circuit-breaker
to the busbars.
Axial opening (C) receives a cone supporting the active part on the fixed side, enabling
the circuit-breaker to be connected on the feeder side.
Openings (D) receive the different monitoring accessories (density switch, bursting
disc, filling valve).
Bosses (E) are used to assemble the circuit-breaker on its support structure.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
The mechanical operating mechanism (21) enables the operation of the circuit-breaker.
It stores enough energy to provide an O-CO operating cycle even when there is no
external power supply.
It is fixed to the circuit-breaker via the upper arm (22) and a lower bracket (23).
A rod system (24) protected by a cover (25) enables the movements to be transmitted
to the circuit-breaker.
The operating mechanism cover (26) is fitted with a viewport enabling its status and
that of the circuit-breaker to be checked visually.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
The movement inlet consists of a base (31) fixed onto the circuit-breaker tank.
It receives a shaft (32) equipped with 2 levers (33) enabling the operation of the insu-
lating rod (34), which transmits the movements to the active part of the circuit-breaker.
A metal sheet (35) is used to support the moisture absorber (36).

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
The active part on the mobile side is made up of a fixed support body (41) assembled
on to the circuit-breaker tank via insulating bars (42) and a supporting plate (43).
The mobile assembly, guided by the support body (41) is composed of a main contact
(44) and an arcing contact (45).
The nozzle (46) and the piston (47) enable effective blowing of SF6 during operations.
An insulating cone (48), fitted with its electrodes and bar, links the circuit-breaker to
the busbars.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
The active part on the fixed side is made up of an insulating cone (53) which both
supports the main contact (51) and the arcing rod (52) and enables connection to the
substation.

2.6. Accessories
In the same way as all the other switchgear, the circuit-breaker is fitted with monitoring
accessories:
-- A bursting disc (BD), to prevent damage to the equipment in the event of a
sudden pressure rise.
-- A moisture absorber (MA), placed in the bottom of the movement inlet, to
conserve the dielectric characteristics of the SF6 gas.
-- A density switch or sensor (DS), enabling the pressure to be checked.
-- A valve (V) used to fill the circuit-breaker and to top it up with SF6 gas.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
3. Operation
In normal operation the circuit-breaker is in the closed position, the bay is in service.
In the event of a fault, the operating mechanism receives an order to open the circuit-
breaker and actuates the movement inlet lever. In the first opening phase, the main
contacts open. Current continuity is provided by the arc contacts.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
In the second opening phase, the arcing contacts separate from one another. An elec-
trical arc is created between the contacts.
The movement of the moving contact piston blows SF6 onto the electric arc to extin-
guish it.

Description and operation
Type B105-CB SF6 insulated circuit-breaker
During the third phase, the arc is extinguished. The piston continues to blow SF6
until the circuit-breaker is completely open, and, if necessary, until the electrical arc is
completely extinguished.
The operating mechanism’s optical indicators show the status of the mechanism (spring
tension) and the circuit-breaker (open or closed).

Operation
1. Function
The circuit-breaker enables energy to be transmitted, and to switch on and switch off:
-- service currents
-- fault currents up to the allocated short-circuit current
-- phase shift currents
-- transformer currents without load
-- line and cable currents without load
