1: Crude oil consumption is a massive issue, and there are many solutions to combat this.
Firstly, advertising electric vehicles and increased funding in electric vehicles, could make
vehicles more efficient, in terms of fuel. Secondly, limiting plastics which are sold worldwide,
for example bottled water is a major concern, so purchasing and using products like it
should be avoided.

2. To replace landfill waste, local councils and the government should work in conjunction in
following several schemes that can allow a change in terms of improvement in how the
recycling is collected, which includes taxes on plastic bags, plastic cups etc. Businesses
should be encouraged and persuaded to invest in these type of alternatives which aid the
environment.

3. It is of paramount importance, because this will instigate the growth of these schemes,
especially the government, councils and other positions of authority should make a move in
promoting recycling and sale of recycled materials

4. Plastics may be mixed, and waste which is recycled may pose issues to optical detectors,
with a supply of household plastic waste.

5. a)
b) PVC burning causes carbon monoxide, chlorinated furans, and dioxins to be produced
and this can cause birth defects to cancer.

6. a) Incineration is considerably better than landfill, as the volume of waste is reduced by a

huge amount, the release of contaminants into the region is avoided and it can provide
energy to the area. Carbon emissions are also much lower for incineration.

b) People are often opposed due to the fact they can contribute to pollution in the air, they
worsen peoples’ lives due to the large noise and bad smells coming from it.

c) Incinerations releasing dioxins, which can cause acid rain and air pollution. Carbon
emissions are still produced.

d) Spray dryers are utilized alongside dry-lime injection systems to fully remove them before
they could enter the atmosphere and dioxins. Electrostatic precipitators remove particulates
or by using fabric filters to remove the waste.

7)Polythene bags are still used widely due to social and economic reasons. Polythene
manufacturing is much cheaper than eco-friendly alternatives, which would require a
considerable investment to initiate the business, and to maintain it would require even
more. Furthermore, polythene manufacturing is already in use and is quite popular.
