Professional Development Memo.

To: US Defense Industry

Subject: Professional Development Goals.

Self-improvement and professional development are worthy endeavors in our lives, more

so in terms of achieving a more successful career (Riopel, 2019). The aim of this memo is to

share some of my short-term, mid-term and long-term career objectives for my professional

development.

Short-term goals

My job is one of the most important things in my life right now. It has been my greatest

desire to come up with better goals that will help me acquire more skills ang grow in my career.

In the next twelve months, I hope to have completed my Post Commissioning Training and

enrolled for a Young Officers course so as to become eligible foe operation. The Post

Commissioning Training is expected to run for four weeks, where I will attend training every

weekend, while the Young Officers Course will take a period of two weeks.

I also hope to interact more with my platoon and increase the confidence and trust that

have in me. Moreover, I will identify available training opportunities involving de-conflict with

work and social life. Due to the YOs course, I might not be able to attend all the set annual

camps. However, I will try my best to attend as many as I can. Although some of these goals

might slip into a year, I will ensure that they do not exceed further.

Mid-term goals

My mid-term goals are the goals that I intend to achieve in the next two to three years. I

am making a point to ensure that in a span of the next two to three years, I acquire new skills and

improve my knowledge on officership. Some of these goals include widening my understanding

of officership.

In the next two years, I hope to learn more about officership from more experienced

offices in the department. I will also have to establish a strong friendship and networking system

with them. Second, I will improve on my personal fitness. To achieve this goal, I will have to

allocate specific mornings and evenings for fitness training. I will also come up with personal

fitness program that will help me improve fitness and stamina.

I will also improve on my planning and decision-making skills. I hope thar I will be able

to gain more experience on the estimate and orders process. I will use the experience gained in

the working environment to speed up and improve on my decision-making skills.

Some of the other goals that I intend to achieve in the next two to three years include;

completing a pre-operational deployment training, gaining employers support to deploy on

operations and using operational experience to good effect once I return to my territorial unit. I

also hope to lead several cross-functional project teams, which will give me significant business

exposure. Lastly, I hope to take up manager role where I will be responsible for managing a

small team of direct reports.

Long Term Goals.

My long-term goals include the professional objectives that I hope to achieve beyond

three years. First, I hope to pass the Military Knowledge exam and attend the Joint Officers

Tactical Awareness Course. I also hope to build confidence in command by volunteering to lead

various teams across several functional projects. By doing so, I will be able to build my

credibility and experience as a leader.

In addition, in the next two years, I hope to be given the responsibility of managing small

teams. Similarly, I hope that my leadership skills will continue to improve and in the next five

years, I will gain promotion to captain and command a support weapons platoon. To increase my

competitive advantage in the workforce, I will enroll for an online degree on aerospace

engineering.

In conclusion, above are my target professional goals and objectives that I hope to

achieve in the next five years. As you read through this memo, I hope you will get to see the

essential insights to my career development journey.
