Thank you for the work that you and your members do every day on behalf of some of
Michigan’s most vulnerable residents. I write today in response to your letter dated April
30 regarding legislation which would address fee schedules for care providers.
On several occasions I have raised this topic with House Speaker Jason Wentworth and
Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, expressing my openness to a targeted approach that
ensures our most vulnerable have access to care.
As you know, a policy solution must begin with legislative action. To date, the legislature
has not scheduled a committee hearing nor a committee or floor vote on this issue. Further,
you may have seen the Senate Majority Leader’s public statement that he is not interested
in changing Michigan’s no fault statute. I remain a willing partner and stand ready to
engage with the legislature on this issue.
