REFLECTION PAPER

In this particular course and under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Zillah
Tobongbanua, I was able to achieve and learn a lot of things. With this subject, I
was able to gain knowledge about the care of older adults and how I can use
this knowledge to effectively provide the best possible care for them. Even with
the limited number of time that we had and even with the challenges of online
distance learning, I, along with the other members of my group, were able to
create a comprehensive casebook and concept map about the care of geriatric
clients. Creating a casebook and concept map was certainly not an easy task
especially that it required a great deal of analyzing and critical thinking skills, and
of course, a great deal of time from us. Aside from that, we were able to
comprehensively explain the concept map that we made during our case
presentation. Indeed, I am proud of our achievements no matter how small they
may be.
Like any other group, my groupmates and I faced a lot of challenges in the
process. We were quite pressed for time as it was nearing finals week already as
well as our research defense. We also had other responsibilities outside school, so
we had a hard time coming up with a perfect schedule to meet and finish our
requirements. However, we learned to compromise and manage our time well in
order to mitigate this problem that we encountered.
Moreover, I did not just gain knowledge as to how older adults should be
taken care of, but I also learned what skills (e.g., keen observation and critical
thinking skills) are needed in the care of these clients. Lastly, among the values
that I have realized from this engagement/experience, were concern for others,
respect, compassion, as well as empathy and kindness which are all important
when caring for older adults.
