Answer the following:

1) Look at this. 2 + 3 – 4 + 5. In this question the number 3 has + before and – after it.
In every question, which sign is more important, the sign before a number or the
sign after a number.

5) Tom and Mario are 152 cm and 166 cm tall, respectively. What is the difference in
their heights?

6) Gavin gave his brother ₤5. He asked him to buy 6 packets of juice each costing 45 p,
4 packets of chips each costing 50 p and 5 lozenges costing 20 p each. Check
whether Gavin has given his brother enough money to get all of these. Show all
working with clear statements.

7) An old man decided to divide 320 p among four children equally. Shane, Justin,
Trevor and Moses. Shane already has 45 p, given to him by his mother, Justin
doesn’t have any, Trevor is the one who always gets the highest allowance of ₤1
every week and has been saving for the last three weeks. Moses has 90 p with him.
If Trevor decides to give the amount he gets from the old man to Justin, how much
will each one finally have? Think carefully and do not answer in a hurry.

10) Two boys started a 1200 m race together. This means that there are 3 laps that they
have to take. One boy takes 4 minutes to complete one lap and the other boy takes
6 minutes to complete it. After how many minutes do they cross each other again?
