1. OBJECTIVES
 Enable competition for chess players from Bahia, Brazil and

abroad in a virtual environment.
 Spread the practice of chess in the virtual environment, at this

time of social seclusion instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. TOURNAMENTS
I- The event will be composed of the following tournaments:
A) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Main Tournament

B) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Seniors and Veterans
(Born in 1965 or before that)
C) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Under 18
(Born in 2002 or after that)
D) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Women's Tournament
E) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Visually Impaired Tournament
F) Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Team Tournament
3. LOCATION OF THE COMPETITION
It will be a virtual event held at the lichess.org website platform.

4.1. ENTRY FEE
 Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Team Tournament: USD* 8,93 per
team.
 Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Main Tournament: USD* 1,79
(titled players can enter the competition for free).
 Other Tournaments: FREE entry.
 Players with the VIP Invitation can: enter the Final of the Main
Tournament directly. Cost of the invitation: USD* 8,92.

5. PARTICIPANTS
I- Open event for players from Bahia, Brazil and abroad.

II- As a prerequisite for the players, each of them must have at least 20
games completed with points value, there is no nickname registered for
this event (this rule does not apply for the tournament of two visually
impaired players).
III- The player can play any number of events indicated in item 2.
For the Team Tournament:

I- Each team cannot have less than 2 players or more than 6.
II- Each team cannot have an average rating higher than 2100.
III- To calculate the team's average rating, only the 5 players with the
highest rating will be considered.
IV- The qualification criteria considered will be the FIDE Classic rating. If
the player does not have a FIDE Classic rating, the FIDE Rapid rating will be
considered. If the player does not have a FIDE Rapid rating, the FIDE Blitz
rating will be considered. If the player does not have a FIDE Blitz rating, they
will be assigned a rating of 1800.

7. GAME SETUP
7.1. MAIN TOURNAMENT SETUP
I- Bahia Open Online 2020 - Main Tournament will consist of 2

phases: Qualifier and Final.

II- The Qualifier will inaugurate the Tournament.
III- The Final will be the conclusion of it.
7.2. MAIN TOURNAMENT QUALIFIER
I- The Qualifier will consist of 4 tournaments.
II- The 1st tournament classifies 20 players for the Final, the others
classify 10 players each.
III- All tournaments will be played on a 9-round Swiss system with an

interval of 1 minute per round.
7.3. MAIN TOURNAMENT FINAL
I- Composition:
A) 50 players classified in the qualifying round.

B) The first 20 GMs, the first 30 IMs, the first 20 WGMs and the
first 30 WMIs.
C) The champion of each of the other events shown in item 2 of
the regulation.
II- The Main Tournament Final will be played on a 11-round Swiss

system with an interval of 1 minute per round.
7.4. SENIORS AND VETERANS, WOMEN'S AND UNDER 18

TOURNAMENTS SETUP
I- All Tournaments will consist of 2 phases: Qualifier and Final.
II- The Qualifier will inaugurate the Tournaments.

III- The Final will be the conclusion of each Category.

IV- The 1st tournament classifies 20 players for the Final, the others
classify 10 players each.
V- The Qualifier will consist of 2 tournaments: Qualifier and a Recap.
VI- Both tournaments (Qualifier and Recap) will be played on a 7-

round Swiss system with an interval of 1 minute per round.
VII- The Qualifier classifies 16 players for the Final.
VIII- The Recap classifies 4 players for the Final
IX- Players can only take part in the Recap when not yet qualified for
the Final.
X- The Final will be played on a 7-round Swiss system with an
interval of 1 minute per round.
7.5. VISUALLY IMPAIRED TOURNAMENT SETUP
I- It will be a single Tournament played on a 5-round Swiss system

with 1 round per day.
7.6. TEAM TOURNAMENT SETUP
I- The event will be in Arena format with a 1 hour duration. Appendix A

provides information on how Arena tournaments work at lichess.org.
II- The event will consist of a final phase and qualifying phases before
the final.
III- The number of qualifying phases will depend on the number of

teams enrolled on the tournament. That is, there will be qualifying
rounds until there are only 10 teams left or less..
IV- Each tournament cannot have more than 10 teams nor less than
3.

V- Only the top 5 scorers of the team will be added to the team's
averaging score.
VI- The objective of the qualification phases is to classify the teams

for the final phase.
VII- In each qualifying phase the teams will be distributed in

tournaments. There will be 10 teams per tournament, except when
the situation described in the next point occurs.
VIII- In the occurrence of a tournament having less than 3

participating teams, the number of teams in it will then be adjusted to
a value of 8 or 9 in order to settle said circumstance.
IX- Each qualifying phase will have a minimum number of 2

tournaments and a maximum number based on the amount of teams
taking part in it.
X- The teams with the highest average rating will be allocated one in
each tournament as phase key-leaders.
XI- The remaining teams will be drawn.
XII- Each tournament will classify 2 teams for the next phase.
XIII- The final phase will be a single tournament in the Arena format
with all the teams classified in the last qualifying phase.
8. TIEBREAK CRITERIA
Since the competition will be held entirely in the virtual environment of

lichess.org, the tiebreak criteria will be that applied by said platform:
1º) Sonneborn-Berger Total
2º) Performance Rating
3º) Victory Rate
4º) Average rating of opponents faced by the player
Note: The rating used as a parameter will be that of lichess.org, at a
pace compatible with that of the competition.

The award will be a book each for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best placed of each
category. (Categories: Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16,
Under 18).

9.6. BAHIA OPEN DE XADREZ ONLINE - TEAM TOURNAMENT
Champion Team: 50% of the total amount of the awards + 4 books

Vice-Champion Team: 30% of the total amount of the awards + 3 books
3rd Place: 20% of the total amount of the awards + 1 book
The total amount designated to the awards will be USD* 178,34. As from 70
teams on enrolled in the event, there will be an increase of USD* 89,17 in the
prize for every 20 new teams registered thereafter.
9.7. IMPORTANT REMARKS ABOUT THE AWARDS
I- The books will have free shipping, if the destination lies within
national territory.
II- The tiebreak criteria for the Bahia Open Absolute Online Chess
2020 award will be applied according to the following criteria in that
order:
1st Classification in the Final

2nd Sum of the points of all the tournaments in the Qualifier
III- Only the Bahia Open de Xadrez Online 2020 - Main Tournament
and Team Tournament will be worth cash prizes.
IV- The cash prizes designated for the Bahia Open de Xadrez Online
2020 - Team Tournament will be deposited in the account indicated by
the team captain.
*The values of the cash awards may vary slightly according to

the BRL - USD quotation at the time of the tournaments.

13. GENERAL INFORMATION
13.1. FOR THE SWISS TOURNAMENTS
a) In accordance with the provisions of Art. 6, item 6.7.1 of the FIDE Laws
of Chess: The tolerance limit ("predetermined" time) for the late chess
player to start a game before WO determines a lost. , will be equal to the
scheduled start time for that match. The chess player who is late, that is,
after the delay tolerance time, must lose the game. Lichess.org itself will
take care of the grace period. This article does not apply to the Team
Tournament.
b) Lichess' Swiss tournament rules will apply.
c) The player who enters the Swiss tournament late will receive 0.5 absent
bye points in the 1st round.
d) The player cannot enter the tournament after half the number of rounds
has passed.
e) No points will be added for the other rounds that a player has missed.

f) In case there is an odd number of players at the time of pairing, the

unpaired player will receive 1 point bye.
13.2. STRICTLY PROHIBITED:
a) verbally or physically assaulting another chess player, member of the

refereeing or competition board;
b) Behaviors or verbal manifestations or any discriminatory conduct based
on origin, sex, race or ethnicity, religion or beliefs, disability, age or
sexual orientation. The chess player who does not comply with this point
will be sanctioned with the elimination of the competition.
c) violate any determination of the arbitrators;
d) distracting or disturbing the opponent in any way, including repeatedly
offering a draw and unreasonable complaints. (Observe the provisions of
Art. 11, point 11.5 of the FIDE Laws of Chess).
e) Asking your opponent for permission to bid on the digital board at
lichess.org. The sanction for the breach of this article will be with the loss
of the match.
f) All matches will be played in the "Point Worth" mode at lichess.org
13.3. NICKNAME
I- The nickname that appears on the registration form must be used throughout
the tournament and will be registered as the player's official nickname for this
competition.
II- The player's nickname must not contain obscene words, insults, incitement
to violence, symbols of hatred. Any attitude in disagreement with this point of
the regulation may prevent participation in the competition.
III- If the player wants to use a new nickname or change it, he must inform the
referee in advance.

IV- If the player changes his nickname without prior notification to arbitration,
they will be excluded from the competition.
13.4. ENGINE / CHEATING
I- The player accused of using engines and / or computers during the

games at lichess.org, even when they have an unofficial nickname,
but are known to the arbitration as an enrolled player, will not be able
to use another nickname and will be automatically disqualified. from
the competition.
II- If said player is playing the Team Tournament, the team will be
disqualified from the competition.
13.5. CONNECTION LOSS
I- Wins and draws declared by the player due to a connection drop will
not be accepted.
II- If the connection of one of the players falls, the other must continue in
the game until the lichess.org system is in charge of declaring victory
or draw.
In such cases, the following may occur:
a) Victory by time lapse.
b) Tie, based on the material x time elements.
III- The result described in item 13.5, II. will be automatically given by
lichess.org when the time of the player who has been disconnected is
up;

IV- The player who declares a tie or victory due to a connection drop will
automatically lose the match.
13.6. FINAL ASSERTIONS
I- There is no restriction on draws by mutual agreement, as long as the

provisions of Article 5, point 5.2.3 of the FIDE Laws of Chess are complied with.
II- The player is recommended to know in advance the rules of the Swiss
tournaments and Arenas of lichess.org.
III- Every chess player, when registering, admits to having read this regulation in
its entirety, to understand all its content and to agree with all the items
contained therein, as well as having read the FIDE Laws of Chess in its entirety.

APPENDIX A - TOURNAMENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE LICHESS

ARENA FORMAT
How are points calculated?

A victory is worth 2 points, a draw is worth 1 point and a loss is worth no points.
If you manage to win 2 games in a row, a sequence of double points will begin,
represented by a flame icon in your score.
The following games will be worth double points until you lose a game.
That is, a victory will be worth 4 points, a draw 2 and a loss will continue to be
worth no points.
For example, 2 wins in a row from a draw will be worth 6 points: 2 + 2 + (2 x 1)
Arena Berserk
When the player clicks the Berserk button at the start of a game, their time is
cut in half. In that case, a victory will be worth one more point.
Berserk in games with incremental time control will cancel it. (the exception is 1
+ 2, which will be 1 + 0)
Berserk is not available in games without a start time (0 + 1, 0 + 2).
Berserk only guarantees an extra point if you play at least 7 moves in the
match.
How are the winners of the tournament drawn?

The players with the most points at the end of the tournament are declared the
winners.
How does the pairing work?

At the beginning of the tournament, players will be paired based on their
qualifications.

As soon as your game is over, you'll be again waiting to be matched with a

qualifying player next to yours. By ending your game early, you will be able to
play more times and collect more points than your opponents.
How does it end?

The tournament has a countdown clock. When it reaches zero, the tournament
ranking is frozen and the winner is announced. Games in progress must be
completed, however they do not count towards the tournament.
Other important rules

There is a time limit for your first move. Not doing it in the indicated period will
mean a victory for your opponent.
Tying the game in the first 10 rounds will not guarantee any Player Points.
Draw strings - When a player draws consecutive games in an arena, only the
first draw or draws lasting more than 30 moves will be scored. The draw streak
can only be broken by a win, not a loss or another draw.
