2001 Research Update 2: Alexander of Utah

I will start by saying that I am not most actively researching this branch, so I have only cursorily
followed events involving Alexander of Utah.

From Uncle Tom’s 1915 letter, Alexander was a cousin of Uncle Tom’s father and Uncle Tom
had identified only two children, David and William. The family just before 1800 from the letter
would have been (as they would have just begun having children of their own):

Thomas (may or may not be referenced to the General at the beginning)

Wife unknown, dates of birth or death unknown
Children (born in the 1770-1795 range):
Thomas (Grandfather Thomas per Uncle Tom) in Franklin Co, PA
Walter unknown, but may be in Frederick Co., MD
Hezakiah in Franklin Co., PA
James unknown, but may be in Frederick Co., MD
Alexander unknown, but supposed to be in Washington or Frederick Co., MD
Polly m. Alex Ready
? daughter m. ? Freeman
? daughter m. ? Provard

Uncle Tom’s father was Thomas, son of (Grandfather) Thomas, son of Thomas. Alexander
would have then been the son of one of Grandfather Thomas’ brothers, if “cousin” was intended
in the strict interpretive sense. Uncle Tom himself didn’t know which one.

I don’t have the specific information or documents, but those interested in this line may want to
check the Rootsweb query and surname boards for Washington and Frederick Counties Maryland
and Franklin County PA. There were some discussions about a year ago indicating that a
document in land records had been found identifying Hezekiah as the father of Alexander. Here
is what I have of the family from that information:

Hezekiah Robison b. 1770-1775

m. Hannah Toms b. abt. 1775
Solomon b. 1799 Frederick Co., MD
Alexander b. 1800 Franklin Co., PA
Catherine b. 1804 Franklin Co., PA
John b. 1806 Franklin Co., PA
William b. 1810 Franklin Co., PA

Hezekiah was reported to have died about 1824. There was also some information on the query
boards regarding the Toms family. I think someone may have also indicated that William moved
to Ohio. I recall a file existing at the Hagerstown library regarding a Solomon Robison. This
may be him. Again, I am keeping very busy with my direct line, so am not actively pursuing
these myself at this time. However, I do like to keep up, if anyone does follow…

Next: Grandfather Thomas

On Deck: Alexander (his brother)
