VISUAL AIDS DESIGN CONTEST


DESCRIPTION

I. LESSON
Teacher uses one “stick and learn” poster to teach vocabulary and the different parts of the
body; head, ears, eyes, nose, teeth, lips, hands, arms, legs, foot. Focusing on the five
sense:see, smell, touch, taste and hear.

II. STUDENTS’ LEVEL AND CHARACTERISTICS


- Level: Primary
- Most of the students are active, enthusiastic and curious.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES


At the end of the lesson, students are able to:
- Remember the name of the different body parts; head, ears, eyes, nose, teeth, lips, hands,
arms, legs, and foot.
- Remember the five senses:see, smell, touch, taste and hear and their functions.
- To make a sentence by adding one picture of the five senses and a coordinating example
picture.

IV. DESCRIPTION
1. POSTER:
The poster is consist of 2 parts, one is the Parts of the Body with the detachable photos of the
coordinating body parts;head, ears, eyes, nose, teeth, lips, hands, arms, legs, foot.

The second part of the poster is about the five senses; see, smell, touch, taste and hear with
detachable picture of the five senses and its coordinating photos as example.
- The teacher can ask the students name the parts of their body just by looking the poster with
out the coordinating detachables photos. (lead-in)
- The teacher will then introduce the five body parts which are capable of the five senses:
eyes, ears, tongue, nose and hands.
- The teacher can divide the class into different teams, maximum 3 students each team. Each
team will take turns to match the detachable photos correctly to the coordinating body parts.
- After one turn, the teacher can leave the poster blank for a timed game. The fastest team
with the most correct answer will win.

V. REASONS FOR USING THESE VISUAL AIDS


- The poster offer students a better chance to visualize and remember the vocabulary about
the body parts and the five senses, as students can touch and change the positions of each
photos themselves.
- The poster is a helpful tool for the teacher to enhance students’ memories as the teacher can
organise a variety of activities for students to do.
- The poster is flexible, which means that it is suitable for different stages of teaching
vocabulary
- The poster is helpful for the teacher as it can stay for long time; in addition, it will also be
economical for the teacher.
- These visual aids can be used in either an English teaching class or a Science class whose
medium of instruction is English; this should benefit interdisciplinary courses.
