Grade: 8 grade Subject area: Mathematics

Topic:Transformation Geometry Learning objectives:

Students will be able
● Compute the reflection, translation, and rotation of
points
● Compare the reflection, translation, and rotation of
the points
● Predict the reflection, translation, and rotation of
points
● Create transformation geometry rules

Materials used: GeoGebra and Padlet

Description of the activity:

First Round
The students are divided into groups of three. In Geogebra, a page is shared with students where
students can practice to reflect, translate and rotate points on the triangle. Students are given some
instructions. The GeoGebra page has a triangle with certain vertices and 4 different buttons for
rotation, translation and reflection. By clicking the buttons, students observe how the triangle is
translated, rotated, and reflected. Then, they fill in the blank in the given first table, which is the 2nd
step in the activity template, according to the vertices. Students create transformation geometry rules
by examining the vertex points of the triangle. They write the transformation geometry rules they
inferred in the second table, which is the 3th step in the activity template.
Second Round
They create a response for their group in the Padlet. All groups can comment on their friends'
responses and have a discussion on the Padlet page with their friends. Students try to find the right
rules by discussing with each other. Then, the teacher explains the correct rules to students in the
lecture.
Third Round
After the lecture is over, everyone returns to the GeoGebra page and each group changes the triangle's
vertex coordinates as they wish and creates a new triangle. They calculate and draw the new
appearance of the triangle before pressing the buttons in GeoGebra. They fill in your guesses and
result of GeoGebra in the given third table, which is the 4th step in the activity template, according to
the vertices.
Fourth Round
They upload one of their assignments and a short explanation in Padlet. After adding all groups, each
group briefly explains their assignments and receives comments from their teacher and friends.
Activity Template

1) By clicking the buttons, students observe how the triangle is translated, rotated, and reflected in Geogebra.

2) Fill in the blank in the given table according to their observations: (Note: the rotation will be counterclockwise.)

3) Generalize your inferences about how the coordinates change when you rotate, translate, and reflect a point. (Note: the rotation will be
counterclockwise.)

4) Apply your inferences to the corner coordinates of the shape you will create. Repeat the procedures from GeoGebra and compare with
your results. (Note: the rotation will be counterclockwise.)
