Topic/Title PLANTS REPRODUCTION

1. Sexual reproduction

Grade Level Grade 7

Time allotment 1 hour
Learning Competencies and Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of sexual reproduction of plants
2. Describe the process of fertilization
3. Employ the philosophical view of pragmatism as it stated learning through experience, students are
expected to perform experiential laboratory activities about the topic.

ELICIT (5 mins) MATERIALS

The teacher will show pictures of different plant species. Ask LCD projector
students to tell their prior knowledge about plant reproduction Whiteboards
system and processes. Markers

Next, the teacher will show a Gumamela flower, ask students to

describe its physical characteristics, and their prior knowledge
about how it reproduced by observing appearance and
characteristics of its part.

ENGAGE (10 mins)

Instruct the students to dissect the gumamela flower and try LCD projector
locate or identify its internal parts responsible for its reproduction Whiteboards
through the use of magnifying glass. Markers
Magnifying glass

Key questions:
1. What do you observe when you dissected the flower?
What is your hypothesis about the reproductive
illustration of gumamela?

Present the objectives of the lesson.

EXPLORE (15 mins)

Divide the class into groups and give them the materials for the Manila paper
next activity. Ask them to draw the structure of gumamela based Paper
on what they’ve observed earlier. Instruct them to make some on- Pencil
the-spot research on google and compare it to their drawing. Crayons
Mobile phone
Then ask to label its parts and its function (sources still from Data connection
internet).
Guided Inquiry: Compare your drawing to the illustration you’ve
searched on internet. Is it similar or somehow similar with each
other. What common error have you found out?

Let them identify the differences and similarities between their

drawing and the illustration from the internet. Discuss their
observations.

EXPLAIN (20 mins)

Let each group present their outputs after the activity. LCD projector
Whiteboards
Key questions: Markers
1. How do you understand the reproductive structure of
gumamela
2. From the activity, how gumamela reproduce? What is the
process of sexual reproduction? What happens when
plants undergo fertilization?

Discuss the lesson by showing a video clip or a powerpoint that

will discuss similar to what is shown below:

The process of fertilization:

ELABORATE (3 mins)
LCD projector
Virtual Lab. As an elaboration, discuss the applications of the Whiteboards
concept learned (i.e., why bees are considered are considered the Markers
most efficient pollinator? Why it is said that without pollinator
there is no process of sexual reproduction?

EVALUATE (6 mins)

A short quiz will be given to assess the students’ learning.

Quizzes are often used to briefly test a students' level of
comprehension regarding course material, providing teachers
with insights into student progress and any existing knowledge
gaps.

EXTEND (1 min)
LCD projector
1. Assignment will be given student will task to learned Whiteboards
more about plants reproduction by doing some experiential Markers
experiment at home, student will ask to observe their plant at
home and think what process of reproduction that those plants
performed.

2. Design an experiment at home where student are task to

grow their own flowering plants where they were serve as
a human pollinator. It will consider as one of their project.
