access to health facilities. As a result, majority of people in India, turn to local private health
sector as their first choice of . Local private health is expensive and unregulated sometimes.
Specialized health camps are organized for Eye, TB, Malaria, Anemia, Dengue, and
Diarrhea, Worm infestation, Skin infections and STD/HIV diseases. We have conducted
number of camps in various villages of Bhubaneswar. We have given hygiene awareness to the
poor and illiterate people of these areas. We organize medical camps with the help of reputed
doctors to provide free consultation, free medicines and free tests. Around 80 camps have been
organized so far in this year and almost 6,000 beneficiaries has been covered.
SEWA organized Eye-Checkup camp for women, child, man every one. It was organized for 3
days and all were getting eye checkup with free of charges.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
The programme envisages one year’s consistent efforts and one to one contact with the women
living in rural areas through various platforms created for the purpose of the omen Self Help
Groups and Mahila Panchayats. The programme envisages for support and Counseling so that
they are given oral and educational support and times of distress and to fight against their
exploitation. In the year 2017-18 we have organised many women empowerment progammes of
short interval with respect to women interest just like Teach English Language to young
Women, Education literacy Awareness, Women Health Awareness, Income enerating
skills training, Personality development, Awareness Raising Activities, Community
Meetings with Housewives etc. with this we have achieved to cover more than 16,000 women
as a beneficiaries .this year.
SEWA has long-term strategy for the empowerment of poor women through increased access to
and control over material and resources and confidence building to raise issues of common
concern.
Vocational Training/Cutting Tailoring Training:
SEWA has been running Cutting Tailoring Training for young women and adolescents. There are
centre are being run in which 200- 250 trainees are getting training every year. Organization has
very efficient and qualified skilled instructors who are giving training to the beneficiaries. Skill
Development for women are being organized to make them self reliant through initiating their own
small business.
For this skill development of the beneficiaries is very important and necessary. If a woman is
financially independent, she can look after the wellbeing of her entire family. Keeping this in the
mind, skill development training for women was started by the organization. Gradually skill
training run by SEWA has started receiving good and warm response from the beneficiaries’ side.
Now a day it is a successful and self sustain programme of the organization. We are receiving
good response from the community as there are many women who are interested in developing
their skills through cutting and tailoring. In year 2017-18 we have covered almost 300 women as
beneficiaries from which few of them have started their own small work. Vocational Training
Vocational Training is a powerful tool. By making the destitute financially independent, it breaks the cycle of
poverty, breeds confidence, self-respect and turns marginalized youth into responsible citizens of society.
Moreover, it is possibly the single most effective program for the uplift of women and youth, according them the

Environment Awareness Programme-SEWA plays an active role in the global debate on plastic by working with
government representatives and scientists. We dedicate our time to finding alternatives to plastic, to the
education of children and conducting campaigns through which we poke the government, industry, and small
businesses – in a friendlyhere is a keen relation between the natural environment and living organisms. Atmospheric pollution
creates disturbances to this relation. For the growth and preservation of life, environment plays an important role. Industrialisation
in the modern civilisation spreads water and air pollution simultaneously. Providing education and mass awareness to the school
children on environmental issue is one of the major challenges of our organization.

Agrobased Programme- We believes the world’s biggest problem is hidden hunger. It impacts
everything. Hidden hunger is a chronic lack of vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients only whole foods can deliver. It shows
up in EVERY country where the first priority is to get food in bellies, and where we only eat meal after meal of processed,
white grains and corn.
It causes kids to miss school. It keeps adults from work when they’re chronically ill. And it orphans too many children. The
diseases caused by hidden hunger cost us too much to treat —if we have access to healthcare at all. And the burden of
disease from Hidden Hunger limits global efforts to end extreme poverty. Because nutrition is a basic need and only when
it’s met can people thrive.

stroke, hot spot which have been affected in almost all parts of the state in frequent
interval almost in every year.
Due to the natural resources available, Orissa could establish industries and explore
open caste mines without having full-fledged strategies plan in the district. In fact,
the cyclone and wind storm in coastal districts of Orissa on 28 th & 29th October, 1999
could open our eyes to prepare for such disaster mitigation and preparedness
programme.
Though Bhubaneswar is away from the coast has also experienced high winds
during cyclones. It is needless to say that, our State is free from the risk zones of
earth-quake, hazard, at present it is not severe to moderate in the state.
The Orissa is also having liable to cyclone winds, storm surge as well as flooding.
Flood problem in the district is mainly in the deltaic areas of major rivers Mahanadi,
Brahmani and some tributaries as shown in the flood hazard map. The river faces
recurring flood and drainage problem in the lower reaches. Heavy release from
Hirakud reservoir may also result in acute flood problem for lower reaches and
delta.
South western part of the state is badly affected for short of rain fall and uplands,
hillocks and heavy fall of natural vegetation due to mines and industrial operation.
The average rainfall is above 50% than normal rainfall. The current year rainfall is
totally different than the yester year’s experiences.
We all should come together in one platform for proper cause to deal with the future
hazard waiting due to such natural calamities exhausting in the district; hence, we
should have a thorough strategic plan for the preparedness in the state due to above
natural hazards like cyclones, earthquake, flood and drought.
