CHAPTER 4

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the findings of the study in illustrative tables and analysis as

well as the interpretation based from the treatment of data.

1. Perception of the respondents towards digital literacy skills.

In this portion, perception of the respondents towards digital literacy skills were

presented, as it were interpreted and discussed.

Table 1 presents the comprehensive analysis about the weighted mean of the

respondent’s perception towards digital literacy skills. The statements of Digital literacy

is a skill that I need in my profession for 21st century and I believe that teachers of

today’s generation must equip themselves with digital literacy skills received a highest

weighted mean of 3.74 with descriptive rating of highly agree and mark all as rank 1. The

other statements like I am aware that I need to improve my digital literacy skill as part of

my preparation for my future profession, Digital literacy has the potential to improve my

lifelong learning and career and Through digital literacy, I will be able to help my future

students to improve their learning received a weighted mean of 3.72, 3.70 and 3.69

consecutively with all descriptive rating of highly agree and mark as 3, 4 and 5

respectively. The statements of I prefer to master my digital literacy skill since it will

Perception of the respondents towards Digital Literacy Skills

These results were supported and confirmed by Briggs who stated that digital

literacy is about using technology to understand and enhance modern communication, to

locate oneself in digital space, to manage knowledge and experience in the Age of

Information.

Moreover, Buckingham said that digital literacy is more than a functional matter

of how to use a computer and a keyboard, or how to do online searches.

As part of 21st century skills, teachers need to understand that it is essential to learn

the digital world. It is essential because it could prepare them for their future profession

especially now that everything could be technology-based. As technology became wider

and wider, it became more essential to the point that it is slowly becoming a requirement

to any profession. A teacher must equip himself with digital skills knowing that it is

needed in today’s education system. It is important that the teacher does not only have the

basic skills and knowledge when it comes to the integration of technology in the

education. One must always have the mastery to make the job simpler and easier and for

him to fit in the job that he is in.

The result varies on what Lee stated, that with internet technology, it is possible to

get connected with people everywhere across the globe at any time we want. A web

based seminar or webinar is a presentation, lecture, workshop or a seminar conducted

over the internet using video conferencing software. During which the host uses

conferencing equipment and multimedia to connect to viewers or listeners interactively,

including voice communications, live or prerecorded videos, online presentations,

product demonstrations, text chats and more. Considering the difficulty to accommodate

all students who want to take online classes, many institutions begin to search for

professional webinar software that helps them to conduct classes online as webinar has

many advantages over physical face-to-face instruction mode of learning when it comes

to teaching and learning.

Webinar is very beneficial for participants as it becomes the training ground for

being a professional development. It becomes a bridging gap for students who do not

know yet or unfamiliar with the tools used in handling a class. It is effective tool since it

is done online where students can attend even they are in a various location. It is also

convenient as students attended webinar since most of the attendees has internet

connection to make them connected in online meeting.

The result varies on what White stated, that the main benefit of using webinar in

education are many and appear to outweigh the disadvantage. The student has the

responsibility of watching a pre-recorded webinar or a chance to review a webinar

session for a second time. This is useful if the student did not fully understand the

content. There may be also caused and time savings through using webinar. Webinar can

reach a large audience without the need of a classroom.

Webinar is indeed a great way for future professionals to advance in their careers.

Conducting this online seminar seems to have positive feedback from the respondents.

Furthermore, its accessibility adds to its value by allowing it to reach a large audience in

various locations.

4. Acceptability of Webinar Jam as a webinar that strengthens digital literacy skills

of the respondents in terms of Content, Presentation and Organization and

Integration.

In this portion, acceptability of webinar jam as a webinar that strengthens digital

literacy skills of the respondents in terms of content, presentation and organization and

integration were presented, as it were interpreted and discussed.

Table 4.1 presents the acceptability level of webinar jam as a webinar that strengthens

digital literacy skills of the respondents in terms of content. The statement of speaker

used examples related to the topic being discussed received a highest weighted mean of

acceptable. The other statements like the content of the webinar is accurate and complete

and information presented are very easy to understand and readable received a weighted

mean of 3.65 and 3.54 repeatedly with same descriptive rating of highly acceptable.

Lastly, there is an abundance of information enough for me to enhance my digital literacy

received a lowest weighted mean of 3.43 with descriptive rating of highly acceptable.

The researcher found out that the content of the webinar jam as webinar that strengthens

The outcome of the result was supported by Andriotis who explained that the

content should be on topic. Presenter must avoid digressions and asides. Second, distill

the material as much as possible because nobody has time for prolonged lectures. Lastly,
Webinar Jam: Strengthening Digital Literacy Skills of Social Studies Pre-Service 10

the content must be prepared in advance. A lot of webinars are just some person

improvising a lecture on camera. Instead, have instructors write the content in advance,

and work on it until it's just perfect.

The content of a webinar with a speaker who uses examples relevant to the

subject is more relatable and acceptable. It is important to provide material that conveys

information that enhances the participants' awareness and understanding of being

digitally literate. Showing how to manipulate different tools is a great way for them to

also examine their ability. The content does not only supply information but it must

create an opportunity to maximize the skills and show off their expertise.

Barker suggests that an engaging webinar needs to have a script that’s powerful

and interesting. Presenter can use a lot of facts and stats and make sure that the tone

speaks to target audience. It can be a challenging task to keep an audience engaged for

more than 30 minutes. Tell a story that will draw the audience to the session and keep

audience listening. Including examples to illustrate the script points often helps the

audience better understand the information. When possible, presenter must incorporate

the audience into these examples to make it even clearer how they can benefit from the

webinar.

In presenting a webinar, it is must that the speaker has the confidence in

conveying the information to the respondents. Also, in uttering different words and

phrases it is important that it is being correctly pronounce. In that aspects webinar will be

more engaging and interesting. There will be no misconception if the speaker has the

ability to express the right way of denoting different facts and instruction.

jam as webinar that strengthens digital literacy are highly acceptable as show in general

weighted mean of 3.65.

The result varies on what Hadden and Gardener argued, that webinar must focus on

things that teachers should consider when setting up their classroom. Presenters discuss

how the materials they select, the arrangement of the room, the digital tools to use, and

the daily schedule, work together to provide a foundation for great instruction that

promotes social and academic outcomes for children.

There is no distinction between setting up a classroom and planning a webinar.

They include the resources and materials that students need in order to gain information

and participate in the learning process. According to the respondents, the webinar gave

them a deeper understanding of the topic since it was organized around a theme. It is

important for a webinar to be organize in order to be highly effective to the participants.

Also, integrating different tools opens up and opportunity to diversify and enhance their

skills.
