1. What are the safe practices in operating a purifier as per operating manual

instruction?

There are several critical steps and tests to begin using a fuel oil purifier. The ten most

important items to check when starting a fuel oil purifier on a ship are mentioned below.

Check Oil Level in the Purifier Gear Case

- Before starting the purifier, make sure the oil level in the purifier gear case is

right. Insufficient lubrication can harm the gears and other rotating parts (shaft,

bearings, etc.) in the purifier gear cases if the oil is not up to the necessary

amount.

Ensure Break is in Release Position

- The purifier split, which is located near the bottom of the purifier near the gear,

must be in the release place. The purifier will not achieve its necessary speed if

the break is not released, and the motor current will increase. Furthermore, this

will result in brake wear.

Open Inlet and Outlet Vales

- Make sure that the purifier's inlet and outlet valves are both open. The purifier will

leak if the discharge valve is not open, resulting in oil on the sludge hand. In the

same way, if the suction valve isn't open, the purifier won't get the oil it needs.

Open the Tank Valves

- Examine the valves of the particular tank (service or settling) to which the

purifier's discharge will be directed. If the tank valve isn't opened, the back

pressure in the line will rise, causing the purifier to overflow.

Check the Level of Operating Water

- Check the water level in the separate working water tank if one is given. The

purifier bowl will not raise if the working water is insufficient, resulting in the

sludge ports remaining open.

Check Feed Pump

- Check that the purifier feed pump is running properly, along with oil pressure and

temperature. Some purifiers come with built-in gear pumps that supply the

purifier with power. In such situations, make sure the oil temperature is high

enough to keep the gear pump running smoothly. When the temperature is low,

the oil viscosity is high, which can cause the key connecting the shaft and the

gear pump to break, cutting off the oil supply.

Ensure Heater Valves are Open

- Before opening the steam line valve near the boiler, make sure the fuel oil valves

to the steam heater are accessible. If the steam is turned on first, the tubes can

be broken, allowing water to enter the oil.

Increase the temperature

- Raise the temperature of the fuel oil to the limit set by the purifier's automated

control panel. The control panel of all automatic purifiers has a pre-set minimum

temperature limit. If the fuel oil reaches this temperature, the purifier will not start.

Check for any abnormal sound or vibration

- You'll be able to tell if there's any strange vibration or sound during startup if you

know your machinery well enough. In such cases, switch off the purifier

immediately and correct the problem completely before restarting it.

Check Solenoid Valves

- Check the lights on the solenoid valves to make sure they're all working properly.

Take a screw driver and position it near the top surface of the solenoid valves if

the lights aren't working properly. The screw driver will be drawn to the valve

body when the solenoid starts working due to the magnetic effect.

2. What are the purpose of the following water in the operation of the purifier.

A. Low pressure / closing water, B. high pressure / opening water, C.

sealing water, D. conditioning water, E. displacement water?

LUBRICATOR SECTION
A. Low Pressure/Closing water - The low pressure switch is usually used to protect

the pump from low pressure situations, such as when the feed water supply is cut

off. It will be between the pump and the water pipe or tap. If water stops flowing

from the main supply system or if the pressure is too low for the RO to operate, it

will turn off the pump.

B. High Pressure/Opening water - The high pressure switch is used in either a

pressure tank-equipped system or an open tank system with a float valve to cut

the pump off when a fixed pressure is reached. This would be as similar to the

pressure tank or float valve as possible. It prevents the system's maximum

pressure from being reached and the pump from working continuously in this

case.

C. Sealing water – Sealing water is used to seal the water outlet and to prevent the

overflow of oil from the water outlet

D. Conditioning water – This is added to the water before discharge to clean the

operating system.

E. Displacement water – The displacement water reduces the oil loss at the

following sludge discharge.
