Objectives:
By completing this worksheet student will be able to,
 Solve word problems involving ratio
Steps to solve word problems:
Following are the key points to remember while solving word problems involving ratio:
1. Change the quantities to the same unit if necessary.
2. Write the items in the ratio as a fraction.
3. Make sure that you have the same items in the numerator and denominator.
Example 1,
In a bag of red and green sweets, the ratio of red sweets to green sweets is
3:4. If the bag contains 120 green sweets, how many red sweets are there?
Solution:
Step 1: Assign variables:
Let 𝑥 = number of red sweets.
Write the items in the ratio as a fraction.

So, there are 90 red sweets.

Q1. According to Sara, perfect cherry pies have a ratio of 240 cherries to 3 pies. How
many cherries does Sara need to make 18 perfect cherry pies?

Q2. Rida can eat 12 chicken wings in 3 minutes. She eats the chicken wings at a constant
rate. How many chicken wings can Rida eat in 72 minutes?

Q3. The ratio of girls to boys in a a chess club was 5 : 4. There were 32 boys. How many
girls were there in the club?

Q4. A truck is carrying grape juice and pear juice bottles in a ratio of 7 : 9. If there are 280
grape juice bottles, then how many pear fruit juice bottles are there?

Q5. A jar contains 550 beans. Of all the beans, 2/5 are white beans and the rest are navy
beans. What is the ratio of white beans to navy beans?

Q6. Color these tiles in such a way that the ratio of number of blue tiles to number of
green tiles is 4 : 3.
