Production Management – Challenges and Solutions

Production Management refers to the application of management principles to the production function
in a company. In other words, production management involves the application of planning,
organizing, directing and controlling the production process.

 In order to find the balance between quality, quantity, time management and cost, challenges
might appear and solutions needs to be implemented in order to make the business grow.

1. Lack of skilled workers
Young people misunderstand the industry, and the older workers are retiring.
The solution is to help train unskilled workers in becoming the workers that help the business grow.
2. Inventory and Project Management
One of the main issues is that for a business to grow, the ground-floor management needs to go
smoothly, and for that to happen, companies need to invest in a system that can help them get more
control over these areas. This allows the manager to focus on scaling the business instead of being
overwhelmed with these management processes.
3. Consumerism Trends
Over the last few decades, customers were always looking for ways to save money when doing their
shopping. Nowadays, customers want quality, ethically made products and want to know the process
behind how their products are made.
The only way the company can stay ahead of these manufacturing challenges is to research the market.
The manager should be focusing on building a trustworthy brand, having an environmentally friendly
product, and improving customer satisfaction.
4. Selling Direct to Consumer
Other manufacturing challenges related to consumerism trends are the issues involved with selling
direct to customer. As more people turn to e-commerce to make their purchases, manufacturing
businesses have been able to cut out the middle man and sell their products by themselves.
Unfortunately, more control means more responsibility and greater risk. As the company will be
handling everything such as marketing, supply chain management, manufacturing, and selling, it will
need to find software that can help centralize the entire business.
5. Increasing Revenue and Sales
This will always be an issue at every stage of the business. However, the more it grows, the trickier it
becomes to increase the revenue and sales. When the sales start to increase, you will need to do
constant evaluations of your business’s performance to determine if there is any way to improve the
manufacturing processes to compensate for the increased workload.

The more the business grows, the more the problems begin to occur. Production management is the
systemized deployment of techniques and methods that allow managers to control production and
deliver the lowest cost, highest quality finished goods to pursue business objectives.
