PLAZA MULIA SAMARINDA

Plaza Mulia is one of the malls in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The location is on Jalan
Bhayangkara 58 and close to Hotel Mesra and GOR Segiri. Even right at Plaza Mulia Mall stands a hotel
called Selyca Mulia Hotel. Plaza Mulia was built in 2007 and opened in 2009. Plaza Mulia stands on an
area of 46,649 m² with 5 floors consisting of, lower ground, ground, upper ground, floor 1 and floor 2 are
occupied by large tenants who are well known as large companies both nationally and internationally,
including Kentucky Fried Chicken. , J.CO Donuts & Coffee, A&W Restaurants, Pizza Hut, Bakso
Lapangan Tembak, BreadTalk, Hypermart, Matahari Department Store, Guardian, Watson and others.

Plaza Mulia has a mosque named Syeikh Mahmuddin which is the icon of this building. In fact,
in my opinion, this mosque has its own value compared to other mosques. Apart from being above the
mall, this mosque is equipped with full AC facilities and is very wide which gives a very comfortable
feeling so that even worship feels more solemn.

When talking about parking lots, Plaza Mulia has 2 parking lots. that is, inside and outside the
building (only for motorbikes). In my opinion, parking in the Plaza Mulia building is not recommended
for vertigo sufferers like me, because it will be very confusing and make me feel nauseous because the
road is very round and round. Meanwhile, for parking outside the building, even though there is 1 parking
counter guard, I still feel unsafe because it could be that at any time my helmet or even my vehicle is lost,
and if it rains the helmet is at risk of getting wet due to rain drops.

In the current year, Plaza Mulia is competing with many malls and other large buildings, not only
with Mesra Indah, Samarinda Central Plaza and Lembuswana which already existed, but also with
Samarinda Square and also Big Mall Samarinda. And unfortunately Plaza Mulia is one of the malls that
are left behind due to inadequate facilities that are also damaged and not repaired. One of them is the
escalator that is damaged and doesn't work. Also Plaza Mulia was a Mall that was abandoned by many
visitors because it did not have a cinema, CGV was just opened at the end of 2019, and at that time
several facilities at Plaza Mulia had already been damaged.

Plaza Mulia was built on a very large land, about 46,649 m². But do you know? That Plaza Mulia
was built on a water catchment area. As said by one of the Geography teachers of SMAN 8, Samarinda,
Lembuswana Mall and Plaza Mulia were built above a water catchment area. Therefore, due to the
construction of the Lembuswana Mall, the Lembuswana intersection area often becomes a frequent flood
when it rains especially with very high rainfall intensity.

Of the advantages and disadvantages of Plaza Mulia Mall Samarinda, I choose not to agree with
the construction of the Plaza Mulia Mall Samarinda. First of all, it build on water absorption region.
Second, the building has many inadequate or even damaged facilities. Then, This mall is only lasted until
2014/2015.
