Ms. E. Parrish
English 2010 4A
Ms. Parrish’s whopping 16-page disclosure/syllabus was the first thing that
caught my attention when I entered her class. First, dreading to read what seemed like a
novel, I wanted to put it off. However, with English 1010/2010 being my first concurrent
enrollment class, I knew I couldn’t. As I finished the last page, I wanted to just thank
Ms. Parrish for how she wrote it. I appreciated how detailed it was and also the fact that
I could see her humor and personality throughout the 16 pages. Can we also talk about
the cute Bitmojis that was sitting along with the pages? From the detailedness to the tiny
fun bits, I realized, this is what makes a meaningful and effective disclosure/syllabus.
Why? Because I wasn’t bored but also was informed about everything that was going to
happen in class. It was a disclosure/syllabus that I could go check to find any answer I
was looking for while being in the class. Last semester my friend had told me that we
didn’t need to write the “related words” on our Fab Vocab notebooks. With second
thoughts I began to think, “did I just do this all for nothing?” Once remembering the
Disclosure/Syllabus it said, “I also put related words on the slides—words that may
share a root or some other element—and you should write these down as well.” I was
able to send a picture of that to my friend to prove I was right. Looking at the
disclosure/syllabus, one is able to see how much effort has been put into it which can

tell a lot about the teacher. It was a good way to see how learning from Ms. Parrish was
going to be. Not only are there Bitmojis but there are also inspirational quotes to go
along with the information, I believe this is such a great touch. It’s always nice to see
quotes that can teach you and push you to do your very best. Another detailed thing I
noticed was that she included clarification on questions that are very common that
teachers never address unless someone asks. For example, she also writes “one of the
questions that comes up is “Can I read a book on my phone?” The answer is, “Yes.”’ She
is making the most of her disclosure/syllabus here which is a very effective method.
From the Bitmojis to the inspirational quotes to the letter for the parents/guardians, all
detailedness and all the information written showed the great effectiveness of the 16
pages.
