I am here because the way my mother country has been portrayed
in world history deeply affected how I viewed my own culture.

How does diversifying world
history curriculums improve
American students’ views of
third world countries?

PROJECT
I gave weekly lessons about
third world countries’ cultures
and traditions to students who
took world history. Before and
after each lesson, I surveyed
them.

THE IMPACT OF EXPANDING PERSPECTIVES

➢ Students who had almost completed their diversity


requirement made significantly more favorable judgments of
Estonians than those who had just started the requirement
➢ University students who participated in history classes that
were more emphasized towards Africa and Latin America
were able to better explain why third world countries lacked
resources than students who did not participate in diverse
history classes
