Piped cassava cakes with grated fresh coconut

Serves 20 pieces Ingredients:


• 250 g sugar
• 150 ml water
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1 tbs cocoa powder
• 1 kg cassava, peeled and steamed
• ½ coconut, grated
• salt

Directions:
• Boil the sugar with the water until it forms syrup. Add vanilla and the cocoa powder.
• Mash the cassava, while it is still warm, together with half of the grated coconut.
• Add the sugar syrup little by little and continue mashing until everything has been well
blended.
• Put the dough through a grinder with big round holes and cut into 5 cm lengths.
• Serve the food named Gethuk Lindri with the remaining grated coconut seasoned with salt
to taste.

Horse and Carriage is still going strong
Nowadays, people tend to choose the usage of things that are more practical, fast (no time
wasting) and cheap. However, if you go to Anyar Market in the morning, to be exact in
Durian Street, you will see some dokars parked there. Dokar is a two wheels cart pulled by a
horse. The capacity of the passengers is maximum five (small) persons. In the past, the dok ar
was traditional transportation that was very popular among the students, teachers, lecturers,
even the rich and the nobles liked to get on this vehicle. I t was because there was no
mechanised transportation. The cabman of the dokar needs special abilities because not all
people can control the running horse so the horse willing to follow the instruction and go
wherever the cabman wants. There is also special relationship between the horse and the
cabman. In Singaraja, the village where we can find the cabman is Kampung Singaraja. All of
the cabmen in the village come from outside Bali. They are mostly around the age of 45 to
60. The income as cabman is not really much and it is only enough to feed the family.

Besides the need of specific sk il l s i n controlling the horse and the cart, there is some other
equipments needed to do their job as a cabman. The equipments are the cart, a strong horse,
string, lamp, etc. Taking care of the horse is also something that is not easy. The stable of the
horse should be cleaned regularly, it has to be fed, bathed, and the horse should be provided
with horseshoes to avoid pain in the horse’s legs. The horseshoes should be replaced at least
once a month.

A long time ago, there lived in the island of Bali a giant like creature named Kbo Iwo. The
people of Bali used to say that Kbo Iwo was everything, a destroyer as well as a creator. He
was satisfied with the meal, but this meant for the Balinese people enough food for a
thousand men. Difficulties arose when for the first time the barns were almost empty and the
new harvest was still a long way off. This made Kbo Iwo wild with great anger. In his
hunger, he destroyed all the houses and even all the temples.It made the Balinese turn to rege.
So, they came together to plan steps to oppose the powerful giant by using his stupidity.

They asked Kbo Iwo to build them a very deep well, and rebuild all the houses and temples
he had destroyed. After they fed Kbo Iwo, he began to dig a deep hole. One day he had eaten
too much, he fell asleep in the hole. The oldest man in the village gave a sign, and the
villagers began to throw the limestone they had collected before into the the hole. The
limestone made the water inside the hole boil. Kbo Iwo was buried alive. Then the water in
the well rose higher and higher until at last it overflowed and formed Lake Batur. The mound
of earth dug from the well by Kbo Iwo is known as Mount Batur.

Holiday at Anyer Beach

At the end of the first semester, I had a very long holiday. It was about two weeks. I decided
to go to Anyer Beach. I called my friends and invited them to go together. And I was very

On Monday morning at 6, we were ready to go to the beach. We left for Anyer Beach by car.

Pulau Ubin

A 15-minute-boat ride from the northeast tip of Singapore is Pulau Ubin, which is often
