This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also
aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them
to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and
assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often
used to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create
and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant
competencies and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in
your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being an
active learner.
Lesson- This section will discuss the topic for this module.
Posttest - This will measure how much you have learned from
the entire module. Ito po ang parts ng module
EXPECTATION
1. Differentiate the methods of gathering data.
2. Identify what method is used in a given situation.
3. Gather statistical data.
PRETEST
Directions: Analyze the given questions below and choose only the letter of the
correct answer. Write your answer on the space provided.
___2.The barangay chairman wants to find the number of families who are greatly
affected by typhoon Yolanda. He collects data by giving them forms written with
questions. What type of data-gathering method does the barangay chairman use?
A. Conducting Surveys C. Reading Statistical Publications
B. Observing Outcomes D. Taking Measurements in experiments
___4. In interview method to conduct survey, what do we call for a person supplying
the data?
A. Interviewer C. Interviewee
B. Subject D. Investigator
___5. A geometry teacher wants to find the grades in Algebra of his students. He
collects the data by checking their grades from the Class Record and report card.
What type of methods of gathering data does he use?
A. Conducting Surveys C. Taking Measurements in experiments
B. Observing outcomes D. Reading Statistical Publications
RECAP
Directions: Answer the questions that follow. Write your answer on your notebook.
Write your answer on the space provided.
____________1. What type of data does consist of numbers that represent counts or
measurements?
____________2. What type of data does consist of nonnumeric characteristics?
____________3. What type of Quantitative data that results from either a finite
number of possible values or countable number of possible values as 0, or 1, or 2
and so on?
____________4. What type of quantitative data that result from infinitely many
possible values that can be associated with points on a continuous scale in such a
way that there are no gaps or interruptions?
____________5. If the set of data is about the grade of your group presentations in
MAPEH class and your teacher gave a rating of excellent, above average, average,
below average or poor, what level of measurement is use by your teacher?
LESSON
1. Conducting Surveys
In conducting Surveys, you may use interview method and the
questionnaire method.
The interview method is done when a person solicits information from
another person. The person collecting the data is called the interviewer, while the
individual furnishing the data is the interviewee.
The questionnaire method is advisable if the survey requires a series of
questions, which the interview method will be very slow to use.
Example: A restaurant Manager requests his /her customers to fill out this
survey to gather their satisfaction.
Example : You want to know the number of motor vehicles that passing along the
street near the school, so to gather the data you will observe it from 8:00 AM. to
9:00 AM.
Example :
You need to measure the needed mass ( in grams) of fertilizer , if they are
effective in producing more rice.
You need to measure the amount ( in kilograms)of sawdust in replaced to
sand in making hollow blocks.
You need to take measurements of chemicals ( in mL) needed in order to
convert manure of cows as a material for producing paper.
Example: The barangay administrator wants to find the number of families who are
greatly affected by the volcanic eruption from Taal Volcano. Since, the activity is
urgent, conducting survey will be very tedious to employ. Consulting to records or
publication is advisable to collect the information required.
ACTIVITIES
Directions: Analyze the given questions. Write your answers only.
DIRECTIONS: Gather data about the different kinds of motor vehicle passing in
one direction along the street near your house during the space of one hour ( 1 hr).
Note: Observe safety in doing the activity, do it far from the road. Use 1 long bond
paper in performing the activity.
A. There are 5 kinds of vehicle selected: 1. Van 2. Taxis 3. Private cars 4. Tricycle
and 5. Motorcycles
Road: ______________________________________Date:______________________________
Time: From :_____________________To:______________
Vehicle Number of vehicles passing in 1 hour
Tally Frequency
Example: Tricycle IIII - I 6
1. Van
2. Taxis
3. private cars
4. tricycle
5. motorcycle (single)
WRAP–UP
Remember this:
The first procedure in Statistics is gathering or collecting data. Here are the
ways of collecting sets of data:
1. Conducting Surveys. The interview method and the questionnaire
method can be used in conducting Surveys.
2. Observing the outcomes of Events. It is advised when the investigator
is concerned with the behavior of either an individual or a group of
individual. This is done my means of observation.
3. Taking Measurements in experiments. This is done when you need to
take the volume, temperature, distance , height and other quantities of
objects in order to answer the needed data in an experiment.
4. Reading Statistical Publications. This is advised when you need to
consult records or history.
VALUING
POSTTEST
DIRECTIONS: Read and analyze each question and write your answers on the
space provided before the number.
