Principles of Design- Balance

1. The difference between Elements of Design and Principles of Design are that Principles
of Design are the way that designers use the Elements of Design to create good
compositions.
2. The three main types of balance are symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial. The effect of
symmetrical balance is that order, formality, coolness, and stillness are created. The
effect of asymmetrical balance is that it makes for a more relaxed and lively interior
space. The effect of radial balance is that it allows for there to be a focal point for a
person to focus on.
3. Visual Balance is when the visual weight of objects is distributed to achieve an
equilibrium.

Task Three- Option A: I prefer a symmetrical room because it provides balance. In this case, the
room isn’t perfectly symmetrical, but there is one chair on each side, and that balances out the
room equally, rather than when there are both chairs on one side.
