(Hardware and Software)
Introductory Message

This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.

In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read
the instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Thank you.

What do you know about software and hardware? How will you able to apply art skills
through the use of new technologies?

Hardware refers to the physical elements of a computer. This is sometimes called the
machinery of the equipment of the computer. Software commonly known as programs or apps,
consists of all the instructions that tell the hardware how to perform a task. These are some
examples of equipment and apps that can help students to develop their skills in the field of
arts with the use of new technology.

How does technology help the 21st Century learners with their art skills?

Technology has heavily dominated the world in the 21 st century, and how can art
compete with that? Because of technology, there’s now been a rapid and constant rise in new
things. There are interventions of various software and products left and right, and for every
invention, there will always be innovations. In other words, there is always a constant stream
of something new, and of course art benefits from that. A lot of the art supplies, artists use
are pretty traditional: paint, paintbrush, canvas, pencil, and many more. But with technology,
their art supplies now go beyond the traditional ones. There are now gadgets like tablets and
digital pens and software applications like Adobe Photoshop, and all these will help artists
and learners in creating digital art. Software contrasts with hardware, which is the physical
aspects of a computer that perform the work without software, most computers would be
useless. These will also help the learners and artists make the process of creating an artwork
a lot less stressful.
