Answer all questions (7x10)

1. a) How can strain developed on a strain gauge be measured by using full-bridge (5+5)
configuration? Derive the sensitivity relation between quarter-bridge, half-bridge
and full-bridge configurations of strain gauge measurement.

b) A capacitive transducer is made up of two concentric cylindrical electrodes. The length (10)
of electrodes is 25 mm, the inner diameter of outer cylindrical electrode is 4.2 mm and the
outer diameter of inner cylindrical electrode is 4.0 mm. Determine the sensitivity of the
transducer. Assume air medium.

2. a) Explain the working principle of gas thermometer in the context of temperature (10)
measurement.

b) Four wire RTD – explain the working principle briefly. (10)

3. a) Write down the advantages & disadvantages of Filled System Thermometer. (10)

b) What is a piezoelectric transducer? Give its equivalent circuit. Derive an expression for (5+5)
the output voltage by making suitable simplifying assumptions.

5. a) What is Seebeck effect? Explain the working principle of thermocouple on the basis of (4+6)

6. a) What is the hall effect? Describe the working principle, construction and application of (5+5)
hall-effect transducer.
