E
lection day is fast approaching and the social
studies teacher in me can’t help but spread some words
of civic engagement.
The most important part of our democracy is having an
informed electorate. We press students to research candidates
and issues before rushing to judgment. While many of us
complain about this or that, it is the power of the vote that can
turn complaints into action.
First, I would impress on our students to identify their own core
beliefs on a variety of issues. Then I would ask them to look at
candidates and initiatives that most closely mirror their own
beliefs. There is a portion of our student body who are 18 and
able to vote, so I please don’t delay! You do not want to waste
your power. For those under 18, continue to watch and think
and think about how you will use your power in the future.

High School Finals Trimester I
High school students will take finals similar to what has been done
in the past. During the full day of instruction, the schedule is
adjusted for the 5th period exam. All students are expected to
attend the review sessions as instructional time. On the other two
days, two finals will take place during the 90 minute period of
time for 70 minute exams. The afternoon is Records Day with no

Here's the breakdown for the week:

The Overwatch team started things off right in a big week for Loy Norrix esports. They faced their
opponent from the state finals a year ago, Jackson Northwest, in a regular season match-up.
Norrix did not disappoint, as they came out and played the best they have all season beating
Northwest in the state finals rematch 4-0.
The Rocket League A team faced off against Portage Central on Wednesday and beat them handily,
5 games to 0. They played again on Thursday against Magnolia High School from New Martinsville,
WV in a tightly contested match that could have gone either way. After three overtimes and multiple last second
goals, the Knights came out victorious 3-2 in what was their best match of the year so far!
The Rocket League B team was also in action against West Catholic High School from Grand Rapids. They played
well but ultimately fell to the unrelenting pressure applied by West Catholic's team, 0 - 5.
