Recently, your company appointed you as a lead Construction manager. Sequel to the new
appointment you are part of the team that went for site survey/investigation for the newly
proposed (1000) two-bed room housing unit situated at Amanzimtoti. Thereof, it was discovered
that the site is of marshy terrain, steeply and erosive. As a result of this finding:

1. Explore the measures that can be utilised in addressing the marshy terrain, steeply and
erosive natures of the site in making sure the service life of the buildings are guaranteed?
40 marks. (≤ 500 words ≥ 700 words)

2. Discuss the lateral earth pressure and its impact as it affects structural stability of the
proposed measures @ Amanzimtoti. 30 marks. (≤ 400 words ≥ 600 words)

3. How does pre-stressed concrete accelerate the strength of concrete element, bearing in
mind that most of the measures that will be adopted are reinforced concrete members? 30
marks. (≤ 400 words ≥ 600 words)

All assumption or examples must be based on the case study.


Instructions
The test need to be typed, in double line spacing, font 12.The cover page should be in the
required format with at least the following information indicated in large print:

 Date of submission
 Lecturers name

Due date is Tuesday, 1st of June, 2021 @10: am. Student should submit the test on Moodle
platform in pdf format. Student must adhere strictly to the number of words as per question and
no form of plagiarism is allowed as offenders will be penalised.
