TOURISM

A. PROFILE OF THE EXISTING SITUATION

Tourism plays a vital role in the economic and social development of the area concerned and the country in general. It generates
employment opportunities and income in the service sector.

The municipality of San Antonio is endowed by Mother Nature with scenic spots that could likewise be tapped for lucrative tourism
prospects and opportunities for the municipality and the whole province of Zambales in general.

The following scenic spots are a “must see” not only for the municipality’s constituents but more so for the visitors/tourists who come
to San Antonio.

MT. MABANBAN

This site is at 1,035 meters above sea level. Although the mountain is almost completely treeless, climbing its peak reveals a hidden
lake and offers a spectacular view of the Zambales landscape. The mountain has an ample supply of precious mineral reserves such as
chromites, jade, and copper. Trekking the town’s hinterlands to explore forest, caves, waterfalls is offered specific schedule at least once a
year.
MT. PUNDAKIT

This is connected to Mt. Mabanban as a part of the same mountain range. Mt. Pundakit rises only 650 meters from the sea with
similar breathtaking view of the panoramic surroundings. The summit can be reached in three (3) hours. A system of waterfalls flows at the
base of the mountain which is rapid during rainy days and virtually stagnant in the summer. Climbing the falls reveal little pools ideal for
children and larger basins (one about 8 feet deep) like swimming pools that one can dive in. Climbing further reveals twin falls that flow
about twenty (20) feet above shallow pools.

CAPONES ISLAND
This is located just six (6) kilometers from barangay Pundakit. These islands are surrounded by pure white sand and coral beaches
and are easily accessible by ten (10) minutes boat ride. A Spanish looking lighthouse site atop of these islands. There are beaches inside the
caves accessible only by diving through tunnels that have been discovered. A terrific adventure for more experienced divers.

SILAGUIN BAY
This offers the ideal place for scuba diving, fish sanctuary and beach resort. The area is rich in marine life which includes tuna, squid,
lapu-lapu, skipjack, talakitok and others.

CASA SAN MIGUEL

This is a new center for a chamber of music in San Antonio. It is set amidst a mango orchard nestled between the mountain and the
sea. A privately funded non-profit organization organized and staffed voluntarily by a concerned group of family and friends. Pundakit
Festival of the Arts is an annual seven (7) month season celebrating the many facets of arts and culture. Each season features artists of
different nationalities working on a diverse range of themes in concerts, performances and exhibits. Other available programs are:

Residency Program – offers short and long term residencies to encourage artists of all disciplines to extend beyond the
immediate impression of concerts, exhibits or performances.

Special Events – Casa San Miguel is organizing special events during the festival month which include outdoor fairs, dances,
special concerts, exhibits and other performances. This is a channel to increase community awareness on pressing environment issues
concerned.

A cockpit arena is also located at Barangay Antipolo where cock fight aficionados gather every weekend for ordinary cock fights.
