CopyShop

T he aim of the CopyShop component is very simple: it allows you to print your
original documents very easily.

Main window
The main window contains three parts:

1. Input: search of the input file.

2. Output: configuration of the printing.

3. Launching the printing and various parameters for CopyShop.

Input Output

Copy

Choose the mode that suits the original you want to copy best. Depending on the chosen
copy mode, CopyShop will automatically set the parameters of the printer in order to
perform the copy.

Input

File

This part of the window will offer you the following options:

– A simplified FileManager, thanks to which you can navigate in the various available
directories, and select the source file. As in FileManager, you can sort the available
images depending on their type.

– A small preview of the selected image, as well as its characteristics (size, type, resolution...).

In the Preview window, you will still be able to resize the image.

3
I N P U T

Although you can select the source you wish to use thanks to this simplified
FileManager, eight buttons are also available, so that you can easily load your files:

sends you to the parent directory, where you can select a file.

sends you to the /home/caldera directory, where you can select a file.

sends you to the /home/public directory, where you can select a file.

allows you to load a file directly from a CD/DVD in your CD driver.

allows you to load an image from a removable peripheral, such as an USB storage
device.

allows you to load images from the desktop.

allows you to create a new directory.

refreshes the current directory.

Copy Settings

Here you can change the different copy parameters. These changes are directly reflected
in the Preview window when you open it.

In the Copy Mode field, all the available copy modes are displayed—the ones you have
created as well as the predefined ones.

New creates a new copy mode. All the copy parameters

are then reinitialized so that you can set them according
to your needs. A dialog box also asks you what name
you want to give to this new mode.

Save saves the active copy mode.

Reset reinitializes the active copy mode with the last values that have been saved.

Delete deletes the active copy mode (unless it is one of the default modes).

Quit closes the Copy Settings window and keeps the last selected values as copy parameters.

NOTE: If you quit the application without having saved your new parameters, they will be
lost the next time you use CopyShop. Do not forget to save them before quitting!

Parameters
In the two following tabs, you will set the different parameters available for the RGB
(Image colors) and CMYK (Printer inks) color modes.

The RGB parameters mainly concern the modifications made on the image before the
printing.

The CMYK parameters mainly concern the printing peripherals; you will very seldom
have to actually modify them.

In the RGB parameters (Image colors), you can modify the luminosity and contrast of your
image, and increase/decrease the amount of red, green or blue in the image.

In the CMYK settings (Printer Inks), you can increase/decrease the quantity for each
printer ink (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black).

Moreover, the Color Booster mode allows you to increase or decrease the saturation level
for the image's colors. Four saturation modes are predefined in CopyShop: None, Light,
Medium and Strong.

You can also modify the Gamma of your image.

NOTE: These modifications are directly applied on the printer, and thus are not seen in
the Preview window.
C O P Y S H O P

Black point and White point allow you to select the value of the black and white point,
which range from 0 to 255. If you change these values, you can adjust the tones of white
and black in an image:

– If you increase the black point value, which is originally of 0, you can convert a
grey/black background into a black background.

– If you decrease the white point value, which is originally of 255, you can convert a
grey/white background into a white background.

To calibrate the white point and black point during the installation of CopyShop, please
use the CalderaScanV1_00 target that is provided with the software.

The available contrast values (Sharpness) range from 1 to 5.

Descreening is to be modified according to your needs if you wish to apply a descreening

to your image.

Finally, the Misc tab allows you to choose to Enable Spot Color processing or Enable
bilinear interpolation.

Output

First, select your printer in the Printer menu. This list is automatically generated from the
printers that can be used by your workstation.

The following menus are defined according to the selected printer:

 Media: the type of paper (for instance: glossy...)

 Resolution: printing resolution

 Mode: printing color mode (CMYK...)

 Loading: printing support (sheet, roll...)

 Quality: printing quality (standard, superior...).

The Printer advanced settings button opens a window containing parameters that are
specific to the selected printer. For instance, the screenshot below has been taken using a
StylusPro 9880 printer, and shows the following options:
C O P Y S H O P

 Drying time: The amount of time (in seconds) during which the print will be left
to dry.

 Cut media: If this option is activated, the paper will automatically be cut once the
printing is finished

 Borderless print: If you want your job to be printed without print margins.

 Page limits: Prints a border around the image. This border corresponds to the
edges of the image, and can be printed vertically, horizontally, or both.

 Dot Size: Allows you to set the size of the screening dots.

 Variable dot: Sets the type of variation for the screening dots.

 Cut method: The method used to cut the media after printing.

If you were using a DesignJet-Z6100 printer, you would then see other options:

9
O U T P U T

In the Copies field, select or type the number of copies to be printed.

NOTE: If the Fast Copy mode is activated, you cannot select more than one copy at the
same time.

The Format drop-down menu allows you to choose the output size (in other words, the
document printing size):

 Either by selecting a predefined format (A4, A1, etc...)

 Or by typing the height and width of the desired format in the Width and Height fields
(in this case, the predefined format is automatically set as Custom).

Orientation allows you to choose the orientation of the print: Portrait, Landscape or Auto.

Scaled print size allows you to define the output size by increasing or decreasing the input
size, while still keeping the initial proportions, all of this thanks to a zoom function. A
200% zoom, for instance, will convert an A4 input format into an A2 output format.

 If you change the input size, the output size is changed too.

 If you change the output size, the zoom is adjusted.

 If you change the zoom value, the output size is adjusted.

NOTE: If the Auto-height mode is activated, this function is unavailable.

If you want to enter a zoom value that is different from the predefined ones, activate the
Keep mode first. For instance, if the input size is a Landscape A4 format and you want
the output size to be a Portrait A4 format, the maximum zoom size, without the Keep
option, would be 70,66% (this is the biggest value for which the input size is entirely
contained within the output size).

If you want to be able to print using the real size (100%), you must activate the Keep
option.

It is evident that if the input size is bigger than the output size, and the zoom does not
correspond anymore, the document will not be entirely printed.

How to copy: configuration and instructions

In this part of the main window, you will find all the functions necessary to the copy
process. One of the main advantages of CopyShop is that once your parameters are set,
you can easily keep them the way they are and only use the “green button” function, as if
you were using a photocopier.

The different buttons presented here are to be used to launch or cancel the copy process, but
also to set several other parameters; amongst them is the Preview mode, that allows you to
obtain an accurate preview of the copy result.

 The Copy button (“green button”) launches the copy for the current document.

 The Cancel button allows you to stop the current copy process.

 Error allows you to check the potential errors that have occurred when using
CopyShop.

 The Help button opens this CopyShop PDF documentation.

 Preview the document, and displays it in the Preview window.

 Settings opens the general settings window.

 Spooler opens the printer spooler window, managing all the documents that are to
be printed.

 Quit closes all active windows and quits CopyShop.

Copy

Click the “green button” to start the copy process. The original image will be
launched, then either printed or saved, after the chosen copy mode has been
applied to it. At this stage, there are two possibilities:

 The Preview window is opened: this means that the image has been launch, and
that the chosen copy mode has been applied. All you need to do is launch the
printing or the saving.

11
H O W T O C O P Y : C O N F I G U R A T I O N A N D I N S T R U C T I O N S

 The Preview window has not been opened yet. This means that you must launch
the document, apply the chosen copy mode, and launch the printing.

Annulation

This function is meant to stop the <Copy> action, but only during the launching.
Once the printing is being processed, you can only cancel it from the Spooler
window (see below).

Error

This button allows you to check what errors, if any, have occurred while using
CopyShop (choice of conflicting settings…).

In the present case, we chose a printer that CopyShop could not detect.

Clicking this button will display the Errors/Warnings window, with a more accurate
description of the problem(s).

NOTE: If you activate the Auto Display Logs option in this window, the warning button
will not appear anymore, and the Errors window will then be automatically displayed
each time a problem occurs.

Clear deletes the errors listed in the window.

Close closes the Errors window.

Help

Clicking this button opens the CopyShop manual (PDF format).

Preview functions

By clicking the Preview button, you will open the Preview window. Opening this window
automatically launches the image.
C O P Y S H O P

The aim is of course to be able to preview the image before it is printed: not only will you
see the result of the copy once all the parameters have been set, but you can also bring
changes and corrections if they are needed. This function also allows you to select a zone
in the image, so that only this zone will be printed.

13

A direct preview mode is also available; it allows you to see the progression of the copy
while it is being processed.

Available tools and functions

Three kinds of tools are available in this window: Selection, Rotation, and the Black
point/White point function.

Selection: Allows you to select a part of the image. To do so, click with the left button of your
mouse, drag the cursor until your frame is drawn, then release. You can also directly fill in the
Width and Height fields, in the Selection tools part of the Preview window; the selection will
be drawn from the top left corner of the preview area. The changes are immediately updated in
the Preview window.
C O P Y S H O P

If the file being processed is a PDF that already contains defined boxes, you can use the
latter as selection. To do so, just click on the corresponding button in the Use PDF Box
part: Crop, Trim, Bleed or Art.

Rotation: This function rotates the image. Five rotation tools are available:

90° rotation (counter-clockwise)

180° rotation

90° rotation (clockwise)

Symmetry (mirror)

Function allowing an automatic rotation around an axis. Click this button, then
select a vertical or horizontal axis on the image. When it is selected, the button will
change; to apply the transformation, click this new button—the image will then be rotated
according to the axis. If new parts were created around the image following this rotation,
they will be filled in white.

Black/White point: Two color selection tools are available—one for the black point, the
other for the white point. Once you have chosen the right tool, click inside the image with
the mouse to select the point you want to set as the new white point/black point. The
Radius corresponds to the radius of the circle used to compute the black/white point; the
number of pixels taken into account increases with it.

Copy tools
Closes the Preview window, and stops the slaunching (if it was running).

CopyShop menu

Click in the Preview window with the right button of your mouse to display this menu.

It gives you access to the aforementioned tools: Selection, Rotations, Black/White tool,
as well as Zoom and Fit to Page.

The Zoom function allows you to zoom on the display of an image. It is used the same
way as in a regular Display:

– Ctrl + mouse left button to zoom in

– Ctrl + mouse right button to zoom out
– Ctrl + mouse wheel (middle button) to scroll the image

Fit to Page adapts the size of the image to that of the page in the Preview window.

High quality displays the preview image in much better quality (the preview is then slower).

The Keep option

When the Keep option is activated, the image will be printed with the specified scale,
even if it does not fit on the current page or template. Otherwise, CopyShop will
automatically reset the scale to a value compatible with the page dimensions.

Settings

Click the Settings button, in the main window, to open the CopyShop general parameters
window.

Four tabs are available in this window: General, Print, Crop Marks and Profiles.

Advanced settings
More settings can be displayed if you click the Advanced Settings button, at the bottom of
the Settings window:

Printer host: In this menu, choose the station that is to drive the connected printer.

Servers admin: Opens the Servers Admin window, in which you can manage your peripherals
(for more details, please see the Servers Admin chapter, in the present manual).

Key Manager: Opens the keys management module.

In this window, you will be able to execute the whole procedure for importing your
licence keys.

If you are using a dongle, check the Use Dongle option, and enter its type (USB...). If you
do not check this option, you must enter the name of the device to which the dongle is
attached.

The Hostid will be automatically determined.

In the Access number field, type the access number that has been provided to you when
you bought your software.

Choose the source from which you want to import the key file (it is a tar.gz file):
Desktop, Public directory, Home directory, or every other directory (Other) in which you
have saved this file.

Check is used to check the validity of the licence.

Edit allows you to edit the informations related to the current licence.
Usage shows you all accesses that have been made to the keys since their installation.

The Print tab

Print position: Select here where the document is to be placed on the paper during the
printing: Left, Center, Right or Custom.

NOTE: When the Keep option is active, the printing is always positioned on the left; the
chosen mode, in this case, corresponds to the way the initial document will be cut (if it is
larger than the printing zone).

Offsets: Allows you to apply offsets to your print.

Action: This menu allows you to select the print mode of the image, once the copy is
done. These modes are the same as in the Print module.

Automatic print orientation: If this option is activated, CopyShop will then determine automatically
the copy printing direction. It is of course aimed at using the less paper possible.

NOTE: If you apply a rotation on the image, this mode is then deactivated.

Allow not preserving the aspect ratio: Allows to print the image without preserving the
aspect ratio.

Step and Repeat: If you intend on printing several copies of the same document, this
function will place them in a way that will optimize the room they take on the paper.

The Rotation allowed option will make use of rotations, if these are necessary to this
optimization. The Margin field, at last, is used to define the minimum size of the margins
that will be placed between the copies.

Make independent rows, finally, allows you to organize the printed images by rows.

The Crop Marks tab

This tab allows you to choose crop marks to place on your print. Five styles are available:
Standard, Frame, Corners, Tombo and Targets. You can select more than one style of
marks if it is necessary.

You can also print the Name of the file, its printing Date and the number of the Page.

The Margin field is used to determine the distance between the marks and the print, while
Bleed allows you to define which distance from the edges the print will run off.

The Nest-O-Ba function is to be activated if you want to apply cut marks to your printing,
and optimize it to be sent to a cutter. This option being quite complex to explain, please
refer to the Nest-O-Ba addendum, for more information about how to use it.

The Profiles tab

Choose here the color profiles that you want to use: Greyscale, RGB, CMYK and screen profiles.

For each profile, choose More in the list if you want to use the Profile Browser and look
