The city of Tokyo was established in 1868 when Tokyo became the capital of Japan instead of Kyoto.
It is located on the east side of the main island, Honshu near the Tama River (which separates Tokyo
and Kanagawa) and Sumida River (which branches from the Arakawa River and flows into Tokyo
Bay). In the past people came to Tokyo because of many reasons; two of the reasons are that Tokyo
used to be a fishing village and the trading center. Today people come to Tokyo because of the
beautiful scenery, great food, safety and fashion. The population is 13 million or more (2010). The
major nationalities represented are Japanese (of course), Korean, Chinese, Americans, Filipino and
Britt’s. Some of the major industries and businesses today include Nintendo, Sony and Toyota. Today
people choose to live in Tokyo due to the good schools, safety and job opportunities. Therefore Tokyo
is now a huge spectacular city much like New York, but cleaner!

The Same Things As Us?
Rome was established in 753 B.C. There were 7
hills and a river, and they were by the sea. The 7
hills were steep, so they were good for defense
against enemies. The river was used for
transportation. Roman people traded actively using
the river and the sea.
There are many opportunities to find in Rome,
such as its history, art, architecture, sport (soccer,

people choose to live in Rome, because it has many attractive opportunities to live, and it is

The most important thing I learned about the population of Rome is that the location and

Look How We Have Changed The

Landscape.

Rome changed from 1485 to now. People changed the landscape

because of roads, bridges, and buildings. There were two world wars
(1915-1916 and 1943-1944). Each war changed the landscape of Rome
very much. A lot of old buildings were destroyed in each war. There
were 7 steep hills but it’s not steep now, because the building was
increased.

People changed Rome because the population got bigger. Before,

there were many farms around Rome, but today there are only buildings.
When the population got bigger, the landscape of Rome changed very
much.
As you can see from 2 pictures that the buildings were gone and the
new road was build, and the buildings were rebuilt. These pictures show
the time line from 1900-now in the Rome.
The population of Rome, is very proud of the history of my city. They
try to protect the city’s history.

THE LANDSCAPE OVER YEARS.....

The
Landscape
Over Years...
How New York City has Changed
Park Avenue is one of the major avenues in New York City. As a miniature of the city, these pictures of Park
Avenue not only show how the avenue changes over the years but also reflect how people have changed the
landscape of New York City from one side. The first photo (right) is Park Avenue in the 1950s. The second photo
(below) shows its current appearance.
Before, in the early 1950s, there was a railroad running across the city in the middle of the avenue and a few
old styled cars on the street. Few short and tall buildings stand across the street. The vast and endless blue sky
hugs the city with a faint trace of white clouds that are always smiling to people.
Then, around 1960s, humans started to change the landscape. A building project, the addition of the tall
skyscrapers and the grass and plants as a replacement of the railroad tracks was what changed this scene the
most.
It was changed because with the economy picking up, more and more people flowed to the city to make a
living, and hence the trains in the street are not enough and efficient for commuters. Instead, subways were used
as a new way of transportation. This is because subways are faster, easier to ride, and you don't have to wait for a
long time, and there is no traffic jam, either. All of these made subways the most efficient and convenient way to
travel around the city. Also with economy booming, many more companies were established or expanding and
many more people moved into the city. With limited land, people started to construct a lot more buildings and
high rising skyscrapers along the avenue to live or work. Because the city had no more space to expand out, it
expanded up.
What happened to Park Avenue also happened to many other parts of New York City. Today, because of
these changes, the city of New York is now like a giant full of nature stepped into a shrinking machine, and
turned into a human being, with a suit, and only has eyes for the economy. Numerous amounts of skyscrapers
and buildings are standing closely with each other on the streets, which blocked the beautiful blue sky, and it
seems like there is only a scrap of sky above us. Technology is more advanced, and the building materials in
fashion are now different. That's why most of the buildings now aren't made of bricks, but mostly made of
cement, steel, or glass, which also lasts longer, stronger and more beautiful.
The city probably has more pollution than before because the number of cars on the streets are increasing
sharply, and when a taxi passes by, you can smell the foul scent of gas. When the railroad was removed, the
government realized the need to be more environmentally friendly, and planted the path of the railroad with
plants, glass, flowers, etc., and day by day, the city is still growing, and learning from its mistakes.

Experiences in New York City

“I remember going to New York City for the first time, and I was little. I just came from a subway straight away from the
airport, and boy was I amazed! The subway was filled with people, and I remember having to squish between two strangers. It
was really hot, and sweaty, but it all payed off when I reached Central Park. I was playing in the so many playgrounds, and going
to a bunch of water parks! It was...COOL, yeah, that’s the word.” -Trish
“Ok, so, when we first when there, my family and I walked or took the subway to get from place to place. I especially remember
walking down Fifth Avenue, staring at the displays. I also remember going into this HUGE Toys “R” Us Store, 4 stories high, with a
FERRIS WHEEL right smack in the middle of the whole store, which I rode with my little sister. Then I remember going into a
giant M&M Store, that had SO… MANY… FLAVORS!!! YUMMY!!!“ ! -Bianca
Top Things Not to Miss in New York City!
There is so much to do in New York City! This is one of the most crowded places in the world, because there are so
many tourists trying to get a glimpse of all of New York City’s sights, and trying to cram them in their limited amount of
vacation time!

8. Jingle bells, jingle bells! Rockefeller Center is an amazing place. You will really be lucky if you
come at Christmas, when you can watch the spectacular sight. It’s still as excellent when it’s not
Christmas, though!

7.SCENE! Welcome to Broadway, New York City’s specialty! Actors

from all over the world gather here in search of playing in a Broadway show. Auditions are held,
and the best of the best get in!

6. This is what I call ‘the one with nature’. Central Park is New York
City’s top spots. This is one of the only parts of New York where nature is still preserved. If you
are someone who enjoys calm vacations, nature, and/or adventure/ hiking, then this is definitely
the place for you!

5. Ever dreamed of seeing New York City from its highest point? Ever thought of seeing one of
its major financial centers? Ever wondered what King Kong was holding on to would be like? Ever
seen the movie Elf, and where it was based in? Being in New York City is a great opportunity to
achieve all those goals. The Empire State Building allows many people to look up to it, as the tallest
building in New York.
4.My country ‘tis of thee. Sweet land of liberty… Smiles broaden while
others disappear when immigrants see Lady Liberty. Many people now enjoy
seeing the famous Statue of Liberty, or Lady Liberty, and don’t break out in
stress. There are many smaller Lady Liberty models in the world, but
why not see the original one?

3. In Fifth Avenue, there are plenty of shopping centers and you can shop, shop, shop all
day! However, a major biggie in this area is the glass Apple store. It is so amazing; many of
Apple’s newest creations are put there, and the builders put in a LOT of effort in building this
technological palace.
2. When you visit New York City, you have to visit the Museum of Natural History as well. Make
sure you stay late, and so you can watch as all of the things inside it become alive, like in Night at
the Museum! Just kidding, but when you go there, you can feel like you’re reliving history! By the
way, your exit pass is eating a Sabrett’s hot dog on the steps of this great museum!

1. We saved the best for last! This is where New York City really
gets one of its nicknames; the City that Never Sleeps. A lucky time to come would be New
Year’s Eve, when Times Square is lighted with all different colors, then counting down to
1, and announce it is a new year. However, without being here at that particular time
doesn’t mean that Times Square is boring! Jobs, shops, and anything else you can dream
of is aligned on this street! You can never be bored here!
! As you can see, New York City is a city with basically everything to do! Shops you want may just be around
the corner, and anything you want can be found there This city definitely deserved the title as “The City that Never Sleeps”.

People have changed the landscape of London through the building of historical monuments such as Big Ben; these and
several wars changed London’s landscape. There are several different reasons for why people have changed London’s landscape.
The main reason for this is that is that noblemen and kings were a motivation for the building of the landscape of London. The
changes were that the buildings in early London were shorter than modern buildings today and the traffic then was less than the
current traffic today. The types of traffic include road blockage, road accidents, traffic jams weather and other natural traffic
causers.
The exact changes to the buildings in London were that the buildings height increased over time and there were fewer trees
surrounding the buildings than now. Also there was little traffic before in comparison with modern times. The major changes which
affected London’s landscape occurred in the early 20th century all through toward the 21st century. Architects in the early 20th
century saw the potential for London to be a city of skyscrapers and so they began building taller buildings and gradually over
tome traffic increased.
The effect of all of this was that there are now much taller buildings than before, traffic has increased over time and there are
now more trees being planted in the areas where early 20th century buildings stood. Because the bombings made large areas of
land be destroyed this therefore made it an area to build tall buildings.
In summary London’s landscape has changed through the advancement of technology and time.

History of Singapore

POPULATION OF SINGAPORE

Singapore was established or became an independent nation

on 9 August, 1965. Singapore is the peninsula between
Malaysia, and Indonesia, and near Malacca the shortest sea
route between India, and China. In Singapore, there isn’t any
unemployment, and they also import workers from
neighboring countries. In the past, lots people came to
Singapore to trade, and they used to return with other
kinds of goods. Also, Singapore was fair in health caring. It
is very important for people to have a fair and a good
quality of health care. Singapore has no natural resources,
and as I said before, there is no unemployment. Singapore
imports workers from neighboring countries, so they have
more opportunities to work, and to have a job. In 2002,
there were about 4,452,732 people, and on Feb.2 2011,
approximately 4,510,050. As you see, the population of
Singapore has increased. Chinese, Malay, and Indian were the
nationalities represented in Singapore. Manufacturing
computers and other things that are related to electronics
are the major industries in Singapore. People choose to live
in Singapore today because of the quality of life, based on
income, education, and Singapore ensures for fair housing
to citizens, and health care. Singapore provides very safe
environment, wide choices of housing, first-class medical
services, and also an excellent education system. Public
transport in Singapore is great that it’s comparable to the
best in the world buses, and MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) that’s
servicing almost every corner of the island. Even though
that Singapore is a multicultural society, they use English
as a main working language. I think that Singapore could
develop to a better nation because they became independent
from the World War II.

The Capital of China, The capital of Development

Beijing!
Beijing is the beam of light in the mist. It is like a castle on a plain. Olympic
buildings of Beijing are the most expensive buildings ever created. They are the
luminosity of the capital. They are the masterpiece of the sprawling metropolis.
Beijing is one of the biggest cities in China and has more than 13.82 million
people. It is the mark of china’s development. It is like the icon,
figure, and symbol of China! There are streets that changed
completely in just three years
because of progress so you
wouldn’t be able to see the
same thing over and over.
This is a good because it gets
annoying to see the same
place but in Beijing there is no such
thing, there is only progress, development
and nicer Beijing! Beijing is the seed that grows into a tree. So if you want to
see something new then you just have to visit Beijing! It is also full of
wonderful places that can never be recreated!

Beijing was chosen to

The Tiananmen square is located at the heart of Beijing. And

is the symbol of Beijing. Most parades take place here. In 1949,
this was the place from which Chairman Mao proclaimed the
establishment of “Peoples Republic of China”.

This temple is the highlight of the Beijing. This is one of the

building. What makes this palace special is not only its history but
trees that are over 600 years old.

This palace has the biggest garden in all of China. It is also

the most complete garden in China. This palace is near a Kunming
Lake. In the old days emperors were using this palace as a
relaxation resort. They used to come every summer.

How did the Population of
Seoul Increase?
!Seoul is now a magnificent city and home for over 10 million people. The city was founded by the Chosun Empire in
1394. Later on, in 1910, the Japanese were completely under the rule of Seoul. When the Korean War occurred, from
1950-1953, Seoul was completely destroyed so the government and council of Seoul decided moved to Pusan (Busan).
During this period, millions of Koreans left the country looking for a new life abroad, making Seoul’s population decrease.
In 1964, with the help of the Korean minister, Seoul was moved back to its original place and then quickly transformed
into today’s important and modern city. This city wants to keep it a purely Korean nation with strict policies, which has
impacted the Seoul foreigner population big time. This was mainly the cause of many Koreans to return to the Seoul after
the war.

!!!!!!!!!!! This capital city is located on the northwest coast of South Korea, and twenty miles east of the Yellow Sea. In
addition, this made Seoul very important because of the possible trade and industry between the neighboring and
international countries. The city’s location has encouraged expansions of the trade and industries in the city. It also has the
perfect location to do business with Japan and China, which has the world’s largest global market. Most importantly, the
growth of trade and industries in the city, has contributed to the growth of both the city’s economy and the economy of
South Korea. Besides that, Seoul is a modern city and with high technology, which attracts teens and adults. Also, it has
78% mobile ownership and 91.8% Internet penetration. It also has over 100 performing arts centers and about 31,000
performances a year, making Seoul a cultural city with many talented people. More than 25,000 shops are opened 24 hours
and it has huge traditional shopping areas. Seoul is filled also with many multinational and corporations whose
headquarters are in Seoul. Downtown Seoul, has a lot of banks and stocks changes, making Seoul a frequent international
business meeting point. Seoul is a busy city with millions of jobs, education, businesses, and shops. These are some of the
main reasons that make Seoul such an interesting and attractive city with such a high population.! In addition, it’s also
home to some of the world’s largest corporations like LG Groups, Samsung, Kia Motors, and Hyundai. There are
numerous parks and recreational areas where families and people of all ages can enjoy the green areas, the equipment and
the excellent basic facilities like bathrooms, resting areas and convenience stores. Also, from many parts of the city, there
are walking trails that allow you to be in minutes in the middle of the mountains or hiking the famous Bugak Mountain
and enjoying of an excellent workout, magnificent views of the city, the nature and the bright blue skies.! In addition, there
are many amusement parks around the city and nearby. Lotte World is a famous indoor and outdoor amusement park. The
city also has a huge zoo, planetarium, many aquariums etc. The facilities in the museums for kids are amazing. In
conclusion, there are endless activities to do for people from all ages all year around, letting them enjoy the four beautiful
seasons as well.

Seoul currently has about 10.4 million people and over 90 nationalities living in it. Although Seoul has more than 90
nationalities living in it, Seoul is a city where foreigners are rarely seen because of the huge population of Koreans in the
crowed city. Besides that, Seoul’s religion is 49% Christians, 47% Buddhists, 3%Confucians, and 1% others. Seoul is a
different and unique city because it doesn’t only have high technology, but you can be standing next to the most amazing

government because of property issues. This caused many Koreans to even cry because of
the most famous ancient landmark was destroyed. As a result, the Korean government is
restoring of the great gate and it will be completed in the coming years.

Comparing: Before, in the year 1398, Namdaemun

gate was one of the four gates that gave an
entrance to the fortified city of Seoul. Most
importantly, it was surrounded by a huge market where the people from the farmlands came to sell
their products to the people in the city. This gate was one of the four gates that were significant to the
food supply of the city. As Seoul was growing its economy, Namdaemun gate’s landscape was really
impacted by humans. They built modern buildings and skyscrapers and Namdaemun was in the
centre of them. Today, because of this impact, the city of Seoul is now home to millions of people.
Around the gate, Seoul is now extremely modern and always surrounded by crowed transportation.
Namdaemun Gate was and still is surrounded by a huge"market on the right, and trust me, in that
market you can find anything you can imagine! It has changed because it is now in the middle of an
intersection and not surrounded in huts as it was before. In addition, now the street is made out of tar
and I can infer that back then It was dirt."As I mentioned before, the significant gate was burned, this caused some Koreans to be sad and
depressed but at the same time proud of their countries accomplishments. In addition, the gate is now in the process of being rebuilt and will
always bring memories to Seoul’s citizens." Namdaemun Gate is a place you should definitely go
when you visit Korea. Even though it is burned, you can explore the HUGE market to the
right of the gate, one of the special characteristics of this market is that it has millions of narrow
streets and to me, it practically is endless. When you go out and explore, make sure that you know
where you are going because that market is just like a enormous maze in a video game!

Rena’s Auckland Experiences!

“I lived in Auckland for 8 years and I still go back there in my holidays because I adore it so much! It’s
such a relaxed, casual and easy city to be in. Some of my personal favorite things in Auckland are the
beaches and the food! There are café’s everywhere you go, so I’ll never be without my morning coffee! The
restaurants there are fantastic, a real highlight of the city! Something that always surprises me about
Auckland is that there are always boats, and people sailing no matter the weather! This is even more
surprising because Auckland weather changes a lot! The city is known to have 4 seasons in one day! They
say if you don’t like the weather in Auckland, wait 10 minutes! The people in Auckland are genuinely
friendly! I’ve noticed there are a lot more Asians there nowadays then when I lived there!”
Landscape Over Time
These 2 photos show many ways that humans have changed the landscape in Wellesley Street, Auckland, NZ over time. The first
picture was taken around a century ago, and was scanned from an old postcard. As you can see, the buildings look older and
antiquated and some are smaller. Now there are new ones and they look more modernized and towering or at the least they have
been redone so they look recent. A building with a lot of glass or windows makes it look more modern to me. In the first picture the
people are riding in horses and carriages. Now the people are in cars and buses. The streets look altered and different and more
busy with more people. There is also more trees in the present picture which is surprising to me because I think there would have
been be more nature in the past because I know there is so much deforestation and logging to make room for cities nowadays. I
infer that these trees have not been cut down previously because they are newly grown. People now grow more trees and plants to
make cities look more green and luscious.

Population and Resources

The first settlers in the city now called Auckland in New Zealand were the Maori people, then the Europeans who established the city. In 1840 Auckland became the capital of
New Zealand. In 1865 the capital moved to Wellington, though since 1900 Auckland has been the biggest city in New Zealand! The location of Auckland is very important, for
example because of the water source. The freshwater streams, lakes, rivers and seas around Auckland contain many unique plants and animals, some found nowhere else in
the world! That is one of the reasons that The Maori settlers came to Auckland in 1350. The Europeans came in the 18th century, because they were following James Cook.
They traded things like ships, food, metal and weapons. Also in the 18th century they purchased the land and colonized it. People in the past may have come to Auckland
because of the water source. Auckland’s volcanoes have developed some very valuable water resources over time. Another important resource in New Zealand is the food.
Organic growth is a primary industry in New Zealand. The pure clean waters of New Zealand comprise the world’s 4th largest fishing coastal zone. The sea around Auckland
supplies top quality sea food from crayfish to squid. Another popular fruit found in New Zealand is the Kiwifruit. Fruit and vegetables contribute a large portion of New
Zealand’s income each year. Auckland’s population by a 2006 census says there are just over 1.4 million people, which is a large 31% of the whole of New Zealand. From the
2001 census to the 2006, the regions population has grown by 12.4%! New Zealand, like Australia is a very multi-cultural country. In 2006 in Auckland there were
approximately 21,000 Australians, 100,000 people from the Pacific Islands, 90,000 people from the UK and Ireland, 167,000 from Asia and 82,000 people from other
countries. There are two official languages in New Zealand, English and Maori. People nowadays may come to Auckland for reasons such as careers and water sports or
because Auckland is a clean, healthy environment. There are no customs or laws on religion, it isn’t corrupt, or for cheap healthcare. An interesting statistic I found was that
from 1996 to 2006, Auckland’s population of Asians has more than doubled!

Brief History Of Dublin

Ireland used to be under control by the British. Dublin and the rest of Ireland protested, so the British
Government agreed to write an act signifying Ireland’s independence for Britain. However, WWI broke out and
the British Government forgot about it (or chose to forget, depending on who you ask.).

The Irish populace protested and formed a revolutionary party, establishing the local Post Office in Dublin as
the rebel base of operations. On the first day of Easter Week, the revolutionists traversed the streets of
Dublin, killing and wounding as many Brits as their ammunition supply would allow them. This became
known as Easter Rising.

However, when the British, the more technologically advanced, but less Guinness-swilling society, heard
about it, they sent plenty of Gatling guns, artillery cannons, and incendiary ammunition, for use by Brits.
Within the remaining six days of Easter Week, most of the rebels were killed, wounded, or captured, to be
executed later. The rebel leader from the post office issued a surrender note, not wanting any more of his
fellow Irishmen to perish in vain.

As a result, Ireland is still under control by the British today. The post office of Dublin, the graves of the rebel
leaders and a memorial commemorating the revolution have become popular landmarks in Dublin, and the
British have acquired a dislike of the Irish, and vice versa.

THE PEOPLE OF DUBLIN

The city of Dublin was established in 841 AD by the Norse. Its English name was derived from the Irish name,
Dubh Linn, meaning “black pool”. Its location was chosen due to its closeness to a river that flows through it, now
known as the Liffey River. The river gave the early Norse settlers a constant supply of water. The nearby Celtic
Sea allowed for access by water transport. It quickly started to become a trading port due to its location beside
the Celtic Sea. Traders were flocking to Dublin in droves. Eventually, it became a successful city.
Today, Dublin has become a tourist hotspot as well, due to the town’s infectiously witty, charming, and funny
locals. Today, many people decide to go further and live in Dublin due to its lush greenery and breathtaking
landscape, and the fact that many Americans today have Irish blood and go to Ireland to trace their heritage.
The major ethnic groups in the population of Dublin are as follows: out of a population of 506,211 (approximately
25% of the total population of Ireland), 90.85% are white, 3.34% are Asian/Asian-Irish, 1.12% Black/Black-
Irish, 1.47% Bi-racial, and the remaining unspecified. Some of Dublin’s notable

The Parthenon & The view
from the acropolis hill
There is a landmark in Athens, Greece,
called the Parthenon. The Parthenon has
replaced a building that was destroyed in
an attack. The Parthenon was beginning to
be built in 448 BC and it finished
construction in 438 BC by two architects
name Iktinos and Kallicrates.

Interesting fact! Apparently, The Athenians

would use the Parthenon for defense
against the enemies in wars and attacks. I
wonder if you still can use it as defense
against your evil brother or sister… THE PARTHENON
Anyways, the Parthenon overlooks a city on a high hill called the Acropolis. The purpose of the
building was to honor the wealth of the city, although in myths, it was made for Athena, the patron
goddess.

The Parthenon is now a famous landmark to tourists and Greece because the amount of years
that it has survived. The landmark has a huge statue of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill
inside.

VIEW

FROM

THE

ACROPOLIS

HILL
These pictures above show how people have changed the landscape around and of
the view from the mighty Acropolis Hill! Before, in the year 1845, the sight from the
Acropolis Hill was very bare and didn’t have many trees and buildings. If I were there, I
would be bored just by looking at it! Anyway, it was less crammed and busy, since it was
around in the ages of BC. Around 2000, humans changed the landscape. They added
more construction, like houses and stores and planted more trees. People didn’t take
away the old buildings, but they intend to make the architecture more modern. The
humans did this because they wanted the sight to be more interesting and eye catching
to attract people, like tourists. Today, because of this change, the Acropolis of Athens is
the most well known Acropolis in Greece and has the Parthenon positioned on top of the
hill, 150 meters above the sea.
