PARIS The City of Lights
Welcome to Paris
Paris is a city in France, which is in western Europe, it is bordered by many countries and
is near the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean. Paris is located in the northern part of
France, in the “Ile de France” region , on the Seine River and has 2 islands, Ile Saint-Louis
and the larger one, Ile de la Cité. Ile Saint-Louis was named after one of the Kings in France,
IX. This island has bridges connecting it to the rest of Paris. Ile de la Cité is located in the
middle of Paris and has Notre Dame. This river (River Seine) is a commercial waterway
which is 776 km long. Commercial waterway meaning the boat has a guide who talks about
the River, its past and how people use the Seine River as a port and food supply.
Paris has about 2.1 million citizens who speak French. The average temperature in Paris
is just under 12°c, it can drop to below 0 in winter and reach over the 30’s in summer.
One of France’s symbols is their coat of arms. It is yellow and has a wide
shield, a head of an eagle and a lion’s on both sides, has a hammer on the
very top, a monogram with the letters RF, (République Française,
French Republic) a Laurel branch which symbolizes the victory of the
republic, and an oak branch symbolizing the perennity or wisdom.
There are no specific costumes in France. Each historical province has their
own. There are different hats, berets or nothing and for the bottom, there are boots, shoes in
leather or in wood. The different holidays/celebrations in France are Christmas, Easter, New
Year, Fete Des Crepe, (Celebration of Crepes) Galette des Rois (A special cake for the Three
Kings) and Poisson d’Avril. (Something to do with April Fool’s Day.)
In Paris there are many interesting things to do and see such as the Eiffel

“Paris is the most beautiful city in the world, because of its wonderful buildings and monuments. It has a very
interesting history and there is a lot to learn about here. I have lived in Paris for over 4 years and have been as
delighted as always to have a job, home and family here in Paris. There are many good opportunities for a
variety of things, such as jobs, companies, schools, homes and many more.” –Pierre
“Paris is a city of lights, love, good food and wine, and it is a city of culture.
The artists here are the most famous ones, such as Monet, Manet, Degas,
Seruat, Cezanne, Rodin, and a few others. Living here is a tremendous
experience. Honestly, I have to admit that Paris has the best shopping
experiences anyone could have. They also have food that delights anyone,
with a rich experience once they have a bite, no matter if it’s big or small. The
French dessert that I adore the most is profiteroles because as soon as you plop
them into your mouth, the creamy goodness fills it up and the ice cream adds a
touch of flavour to the melted chocolate as you take each bite making the chocolate taste delicious with the
dessert you are eating. Since, I have been traveling around the world for over 7 years now and my main home is
here, in Paris, I prefer it here than all the other countries I’ve stayed in the past.” -Andrea

A little about Paris’ History
Discover How People Have Changed the Landscape of Paris
These pictures show how people have changed the landscape of Paris. Before, in the
middle age when the Champ de Mars was established by a
church community as a parkland, it served two abbeys that
were located on the border of Paris. During the 18th century,
the park had been appropriated in the name of the state, for
the purpose of assembling the École Militaire.(Military School)
It got its name as a reference from a Roman god of war.
Before, in the year 1765, the Champ de Mars was closed to the
public and only available for military use. The Military school
was built for cadet officers from poor families as an academic
college. Just before the French revolution in 1789, the Champ
de Mars began opening to the public. Then in 1790, it had
been used to celebrate the constitutional monarchy of France.
But during the year 1791 the park had been used as a rallying
point when a group of Parisians wanted a petition (A formally
drawn request, often having numerous#names of those making
the request, that is addressed to a person or a group of people
in authority or power) to remove King Louis XVI from the
office. During that rally many people were massacred since the
soldiers opened fire on the crowd. After that the Champ de
Mars remained opened to public, and the city of Paris made it
a place where people like to go, beautifying the place: they
planted more trees, and added opened grass. Despite this
deadly event, people still visit the park and is quite a popular place that tourists go and
visit. One of the major changes of the Champ de Mars was the construction of the Eiffel
Paris used to be plain; had no tall monuments, short houses/buildings and didn’t
have many tourists. In the late 1800’s Paris was completely renovated. Under Napoleon
III, Baron Haussman made a plan to beautify the city by repainting shabby hovels and
shacks making them into shimmering 6 and 7 story high, white stone buildings. He
made big parks with beautiful green lawns, with nothing interfering with its view. After
that, Paris had become a classy center for arts and cultures. Some of Paris’ scenes have
been immortalized by works of painters, meaning they made them immortal, living Gustave Eiffel
forever; never dying, and remembered forever. Then everything changed when the
Eiffel Tower was built. It was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, but a lot of the Parisians complained
about the monument. Some said it was too high and that it created a big shadow over the houses and
buildings. It was actually the world’s tallest building from 1889 to 1930! It is the world’s most visited paid
monument and the tallest building in France .The Eiffel Tower was only meant to stay for the duration of
the World Exhibition, but Gustave Eiffel (the creator) spent a lot of money to build that monument and left
it. The Eiffel Tower was built on March 31st 1889, and took 26 months to complete. It took about 18,000
parts. There were 3,000 workshop drawings; they had 700 engineering plans, and 2,500,000 rivets to raise
this monument. It weighs 7,300 tons and it measures 1,050 feet long! Since the Eiffel Tower became
opened to everyone, tourists began to come. France was making money and the Eiffel Tower became a
very famous landmark. On the 20th of November 1913, the Eiffel Tower was used as a giant antenna to
exchange wireless signals with the U.S Naval Observatory. (In Arlington, Virginia) Today the Eiffel Tower
is one of the main attractions for tourists and is still used for radio transmissions. Imagine Paris without the
Eiffel Tower! There would be fewer tourists since; there would be less to see.

famous festivals in Sapporo are the Lilac Festivals in May, the
Sapporo Yosakoi-Soran festivals in the beginning of June, and the Clock

the food there, especially the symbol of the city, Vietnamese Rice Noodles (Pho). The spring rolls are
excellent, made of fresh vegetables and meat, the true Vietnamese taste. People
say that Vietnam has the best quality bread. I agree, I remember tasting the
delicious ingredients mixed with the rich texture of the bread. The bread was
crunchy and cooked well; it was the best bread I have ever tasted. I also
remember going to a great place known as the Old Quarter where there were
many street stalls selling a variety of things, toys, food, clothes, souvenirs, plates
and many other things. I bought unique and hand made silk scarves, and was
amazed at how fine and beautiful there were. I bought many souvenirs that
resemble Hanoi and Vietnam as well. I was walking down the small pavement
where something caught my eye, it was the extraordinary, hand made, unique
and elegant traditional Vietnamese dress ( Ao Tai). I bought one immediately

Hanoi is built on flat, fertile soil land with the Red River flowing around it. The mountain

Hanoi is in the temperate climate zone with four seasons. It has a very distinct winter
and summer season. During the hot summer months, temperatures can reach above 40
degrees Celsius and it can be dusty. During the winter months, temperatures can be as low as
6-7 degrees Celsius.
Buddhism has been the official religion of Vietnam since the year of 1100. However,
Vietnam is now the home of Catholics and Muslims as well. The national language is Vietnamese
but German, Russian, French and English are also spoken by some of the 6 million people
leaving in Hanoi.
The symbol of Hanoi is Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as the lake of the restored sword.
Legend says that a commoner once found a sword there, Using the sword, King Le Loi also
known as Le Thai To, founder of Le dynasty defeated the Northern Ming Aggressors in 15
centuries. After his victory, the king returned the word to the Golden Turtle in the lake.
The holidays and festivals celebrated in Vietnam are : Lunar New Year ( Tet) , Trung Thu
(Mid Autumn Festivals) , Phong Sinh ( celebration of Buddha’s Birth), Lac Long Quan ( Hung
King Temple Festival), Liberation Day, Ho Chi Minh’s Death Anniversary, Labor day, Tet Trung
Nguyen(wandering souls day),and National Day.
There are six landmarks which you would definitely not want to miss. These land marks

Hong Kong’s history because, when

not, however, attracted people from all over the world. The population of Hong

Cantonese, 3% English, 1% Mandarin Chinese, 4% other Chinese dialects, and
the last 1% from other languages.
The Hong Kong Chinese are unique than other Asian areas because they were
colonized by the British. Local folks like to watch horse races, hang-out in clubs,
and eat international food. The people here also have a generally higher level of
living and are always on the go. But they also relax on weekends to reduce stress.

BOGOTA
By: Santi
You might have been to ECUADOR or VENEZUELA or even BRAZIL but you
don’t know the best things of South America if you haven’t been to Bogota the
biggest city of Colombia and the most modern city in Latin America. The
Spanish people arrived in 1499 and created an establishment which in 1886 it
was turned into a city named Bogota, Capital of the Republic of Colombia.
There are still monuments around Bogota that show scenes from when
Bogota was ruled by Spanish people. Bogota develops more and more each day
becoming one of the biggest trading centers in South America. Today there are
people moving to Bogota everyday from America, Europe, Asia and other
countries from South America and around the world for jobs, better hospitals,
better education, land, and food. The city advances technologically and
cultural each day with new discoveries on how to improve the city and new
ways to end poverty around Bogota.
Bogota is like the inside of a computer, little sparking things and wires
going around making everything work one hundred percent perfect. The
economy and political problems pop up each day but thanks to the great
people and community they solve all those problems. So come to Bogota, Kick
back, relax and have no worries in your mind. Because in Bogota the only risk
is to never want to leave.
History of Bogota
Bogota Plaza 70 Years Ago
Long ago about 500 years ago the Muiscas moved to Colombia for resources such as food, gold,
natural minerals, wool and a chance to create a new community/establishment. When the Spaniards
moved to Colombia they took the Muisca’s land and gold and made it their land. The Spanish
people created a bigger establishment that spread all across the borders of Colombia, and named
their capital city, Bogota.
People moved to Bogota for jobs, land/place to live, and education. In the past people from around
the world moved to Colombia mostly for resources like oil, rocks like emerald, sapphire, and
farming and cattle jobs. They also moved to improve their new land and making it safer and better.
Today there are people moving to Bogota everyday from America, Europe, Asia and other countries
from South America and around the world for jobs, better hospitals, better education, land, and
food.
The main industries/companies today are clothing, textile, cement, food, automakers, commercial,
banking and farming. People choose to live in Bogota because it’s a good trading center, and there is
a wide variety of jobs.
Today there are about 7.4 million people living in Bogota at the moment most of them work at
political jobs or commercial jobs. Most of the men/adults must join the army after high school and
serve the military for a year. Ninety – five percent are Roman Catholic and more than half of the
population are Bogotanos.
Most people today move to Bogota for a job that gives them enough money to live. Most people live
in the suburbs and work at banks, commercial businesses, political and financial jobs. They also
come for the variety of places to live, not only houses but buildings, penthouses and farms across the
mountains.

Things Not To Miss
The National Gold Museum: The museum is located in the
suburbs of Bogota and is open all week from nine am until eight
pm. It contains over 30,000 ancient artifacts and most of them
are over 1,500 years old.
Salt mines in Zipaquira: They are located under the church in
the small town of Zipaquira. The mines go on for thousands of
miles and the tunnels are completely covered in salt crystals.
Bolivar plaza: Is a small plaza/park where people can go to walk
around and eat something. They can also visit the old church
from 1807 or look at the Bolivar statue of Simon Bolivar. It is

church, restaurants souvenir shops and facilities on the top. To
get to the top there are two choices, you can take the cable
railway or drive up the mountain..
Andres Carne de Rez (restaurant): A very famous and well
known restaurant that is just 40 minutes away from Bogota,
Andres Carne de Rez is a restaurant you MUST go. The grill

Life in Tokyo
Subway Map
Landscape
The landscape of Tokyo has been changed since 1970, because the economy grew
rapidly. People broke down old houses and buildings, people built new tall buildings.
Also people built highways. For example, in 1970 people can see Mount Fuji almost
everywhere in Tokyo. But now there are many tall buildings in Tokyo. So people can’t
see Mt. Fuji. Before, in the year 1958, Tokyo Tower had no color, it was incomplete and
different size. Then, around the year 2011, humans changed the landscape by completion
and color. They did this because many people come to Tokyo from all over the world and
you can see nice scene. Today, the city of Tokyo is now like a very useful city and many
visitors come to Tokyo. Tokyo has changed. Tokyo became one of the largest cities in the
world. Then many people come to Tokyo. Tokyo became a very convenient city. So
people can eat anything if you want. Tokyo’s good things are life became convenient,
because people want to useful city. So people broke down old buildings. But thing is
people built many building, so people can’t see Mount Fuji. People think we can change
the landscape, because if we changed the landscape, it will
become to useful city. But sometimes this is bud for city.
Don’t Forget This!
There are Tokyo Tower, Tsukiji, and Akihabara. You
can buy very fresh fish in Tsukiji. Also you can enjoy
eating. There are Sushi, Sashimi (raw fish) and Tempura.
These foods are famous foods and you can also like to
eat these foods.
