Madrid is the city that never sleeps with a unique flavor for everyone to experience! All day
and all night, the locals have something in store for you! From watching sports, to visiting one
of the most important museums in European history, to go on a shopping spree and taste the
unique flavors of Spain. Madrid was once used to fortify a kingdom built by Mohammed the I

Madrid can be found in Spain, it can

part of Europe. Madrid is a high

Welcome to Paris
Paris is a city in France, which is in western Europe, it is bordered by many countries and
is near the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean. Paris is located in the northern part of
France, in the “Ile de France” region , on the Seine River and has 2 islands, Ile Saint-Louis
and the larger one, Ile de la Cité. Ile Saint-Louis was named after one of the Kings in France,

middle of Paris and has Notre Dame. This river (River Seine) is a commercial waterway

Paris is the city of lights, if you’ve been dreaming of a place to relax, shop, and
enjoy the most exquisite food; the best place for you is Paris. If you have always
wondered of what paradise looks like, then you need to go to Paris. It is located in the

The city of Paris was first established in 250 BC by a Celtic Gaul tribe. They had established a fishing river

Discover How People Have Changed the Landscape of Paris
These pictures show how people have changed the landscape of Paris. Before, in the
middle age when the Champ de Mars was established by a
church community as a parkland, it served two abbeys that
were located on the border of Paris. During the 18th century,
the park had been appropriated in the name of the state, for
the purpose of assembling the École Militaire.(Military School)
It got its name as a reference from a Roman god of war.
Before, in the year 1765, the Champ de Mars was closed to the
public and only available for military use. The Military school
was built for cadet officers from poor families as an academic
college. Just before the French revolution in 1789, the Champ
de Mars began opening to the public. Then in 1790, it had
been used to celebrate the constitutional monarchy of France.
But during the year 1791 the park had been used as a rallying
point when a group of Parisians wanted a petition (A formally
drawn request, often having numerous#names of those making
the request, that is addressed to a person or a group of people
in authority or power) to remove King Louis XVI from the
office. During that rally many people were massacred since the
soldiers opened fire on the crowd. After that the Champ de
Mars remained opened to public, and the city of Paris made it
a place where people like to go, beautifying the place: they
planted more trees, and added opened grass. Despite this
deadly event, people still visit the park and is quite a popular place that tourists go and
visit. One of the major changes of the Champ de Mars was the construction of the Eiffel

Some IMPACTs of the Past on the PRESENT

Paris used to be plain; had no tall monuments, short houses/buildings and didn’t
have many tourists. In the late 1800’s Paris was completely renovated. Under Napoleon
III, Baron Haussman made a plan to beautify the city by repainting shabby hovels and
shacks making them into shimmering 6 and 7 story high, white stone buildings. He
made big parks with beautiful green lawns, with nothing interfering with its view. After
that, Paris had become a classy center for arts and cultures. Some of Paris’ scenes have
been immortalized by works of painters, meaning they made them immortal, living Gustave Eiffel
forever; never dying, and remembered forever. Then everything changed when the
Eiffel Tower was built. It was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, but a lot of the Parisians complained
about the monument. Some said it was too high and that it created a big shadow over the houses and
buildings. It was actually the world’s tallest building from 1889 to 1930! It is the world’s most visited paid
monument and the tallest building in France .The Eiffel Tower was only meant to stay for the duration of
the World Exhibition, but Gustave Eiffel (the creator) spent a lot of money to build that monument and left
it. The Eiffel Tower was built on March 31st 1889, and took 26 months to complete. It took about 18,000
parts. There were 3,000 workshop drawings; they had 700 engineering plans, and 2,500,000 rivets to raise
this monument. It weighs 7,300 tons and it measures 1,050 feet long! Since the Eiffel Tower became
opened to everyone, tourists began to come. France was making money and the Eiffel Tower became a
very famous landmark. On the 20th of November 1913, the Eiffel Tower was used as a giant antenna to
exchange wireless signals with the U.S Naval Observatory. (In Arlington, Virginia) Today the Eiffel Tower
is one of the main attractions for tourists and is still used for radio transmissions. Imagine Paris without the
Eiffel Tower! There would be fewer tourists since; there would be less to see.

Have you been to Hokkaido? If you haven’t, then I can teach you about Hokkaido. Hokkaido is
located near the sea, and it is important because Hokkaido has a lot of food that are can get from
the sea. It means Hokkaido has lots of seafood, so many people can eat lots of seafood, and it
famous in Hokkaido, too. After the war, people began to build much more buildings, tall buildings,
and other structures. By the many more buildings, the Sapporo got many famous places than
before they change Sapporo city, so Sapporo changed their images. It means that the Sapporo
become much more commercials city, by they got many more buildings. Meiji’s government have
came to Hokkaido, and they started develop Sapporo in Hokkaido. And Hokkaido is still
developing, and it will continue to develop by the people. So if you have been or visited there in

I asked my father and my friend about Sapporo in Hokkaido. My friend said
she enjoy going to Asahiyama Zoo in Sapporo because she likes to see the
seals. She also went to a hiking park where people can see animals walking
around the forest and a waterfall. On the top of hill, there is an observatory
where people can view sceneries and different sights.
I asked my father has been Sapporo also. He said there were many kinds of
food. For example beans sprout, noodle soup, seafood, Genghis Khan, sea
urchin, salmon roe, herring, and kelp. Small red beans, milk, cheese, white
chocolate, corn and rice are also popular in Hokkaido.
So they said Sapporo is a good place to go. And there are many people living
in Sapporo, but not as crowed as Tokyo.
 History of Sapporo

Hokkaido used to be a mean city because in the old time, when Meiz

they to talk about their future and trade their things, but they
weren’t admitted to enter because of Hokkaido’s policy. So
Sapporo missed to talk with them about the future. But Meiji’s
government starts to develop Sapporo in Hokkaido. Then many
things were changed. Then the people found there are many
natural resources in Sapporo. For example irons, and steels. People
started to work in coal mining, and paper manufacturing. After
World War II, Hokkaido’s economy developed very well, and
Hokkaido founded huge natural resources than before, too. As a
result, the city of Sapporo is now developed more than before
Meiji’s government come to Sapporo and develop Sapporo. And people made new roads, new airports,
and new harbors. Hokkaido is still developing, and it will continue to develop by the people. So if you go
to the Hokkaido, then you can see changes of Sapporo. And if you have been Sapporo or visited Sapporo,
then you can see the change of there and maybe you can describe the changes.

Sapporo Yosakoi-Soran festivals in the beginning of June, and the Clock

Sapporo city in Hokkaido. Avenue Park was constructed in 1912 and it was
renovated in 1926 and 1989. The first time, Avenue Park only has small buildings,
not much green gardens, and it was a residential place. Then they began to build
much more buildings, tall buildings, and other structures. Because they wanted it to
become a commercial area, so that they thought there will be more people. But many
buildings which were built in 1926 are not here in Avenue Park anymore. There are
much more structures, for example, a fountain, more plants, more trees, more tall
buildings and more new buildings, more people, and a tower. There are many new
buildings. And there is many buildings for the commercial and more buildings for the business. They
changed their landscapes because the buildings were very old for that time and they wanted Avenue Park
to have a new image or to become popular places. Today Avenue Park is totally different than before they
change Avenue Park. Because today’s Avenue Park got more buildings or more new things, and it shows
how Sapporo city has changed by 1926 and 2011. And if you have been to the Avenue Park before it

Local
! Hi everybody, my name is Leamas Grant, and
I am one of the lucky citizens of London here to share
an experience of mine with you about London. This
subject was too elementary for anybody! Let me do
the honor of telling you the time I moved here.
Straight from the airport I wanted to explore the soon
to be my permanent home. With my brother Charles,
we took a taxi cab to the London Eye, for he was just
begging me to go there the entire plane ride. At the
London Eye, I have to tell you, my brother did not
exaggerate when he told me that I would be amazed by
the beautiful view. After that, we ate a scrumptious
London delight, which were fish and chips. The food
was so tasty that if we left it alone all the ants in the
world would fight over just a bite of the meal! I
ordered that about three times. Back to the
adventuring, Charles agreed to visit one of Europe’s
proudest collections of sea life, The London
Aquarium. The London Aquarium was just
bewildering and bursting with beauty! We decided to
go to the indoor SEGA theme park, which by the way,
is the largest one in the world! That place was pretty
. that was part of the fun! Could you

Because I could not believe my eyes! At the end of the
day, we checked into the hotel even though we did not
eat dinner, because the lunch still made us feel like a
pig stuffed with delicacies. Quoting Frank West,

shines so brightly and is a very valuable jewel. If you
get lucky and find a diamond, you are not as lucky as
living in London.” How lucky I was to be relocated to
London.

west part of Europe. The temperature is a nice five

River. London is the smallest city in the U.K,
because it is only 1,572 square kilometers and is
about 0.65% of the space in the U.K. That is pretty
impressive considering it is the capital of Northern
Ireland, U.K and Great Britain. Like a bee, London
is small and successful.
In London there are amazing Landmarks, like the
London Bridge which was rebuilt in the year of
1209. It is the oldest bridge in the U.K. When it
was rebuilt, people added homes and stores next to
the bridge. London can also show off its
Buckingham Palace, the home of the royal family.
It was built in 1705 by the Duke of Buckingham,
then housed George III, and at 1837 belonged to
Queen Victoria. During summer 18 out of 600
rooms are available to the public. Also, taking 36
years to make, to build from 1675 to 1711, St.
Paul’s Cathedral was rebuilt by after the Great Fire
by Sir Christopher Wren. It has a unique dome.
London is symbolized by a very familiar attraction,
the London Eye. It is the tallest wheel in the world
that lets you watch over the beautiful city 135
meters above the ground. The London Eye has
become an icon, because it is the most popular in
terms of attractions, as it also is the highest earning.

also mention a gallery called The Nation Gallery? It
contains paintings of the famous artists like
Michelangelo, and even Leonardo Da Vinci’s oldest

known famous artists.
I should speak about the people too. Their official
language is English. Most people in London are
Christians, some are Catholic. People from
Bangladesh and Pakistan usually belong to the
Islamic community. Indians believe in Hinduism,
and there are also some Jewish people from the 19th
century who were refugees from Russia. Traditions
and customs that Londoners celebrate is the Notting
Hill Carnival where there are floats and children
dress up in costumes. This goes on for three days.
Fall and Spring have the same tradition which is
celebrated twice a year; Fashion Week! This is
where people show the clothes and work of world
famous clothes designers. There is also an event on
the last Sunday of January, where people dress up
in clothes from the 17th century as they remember
the passing away of Charles I. As for their
celebrated holidays, there is obviously Christmas.
There is also Boxing Day on the 26th of December
where bosses give employees clothing, money, and
food, which is also the start of Christmas sales.
They also play sports like hunting foxes on Boxing
Day. If you read further on, you will see that
London is actually a very interesting city.

the fire. The fire was very
merciless because it looked
like someone dropped a big

Hong Kong is a unique city because of the fact that it has
seamlessly blended Chinese and European cultures. This
started in 1644 when the British decided they wanted to have
an area near China so they could trade with the Chinese. The
British left Hong Kong in 1997, and made a permanent
imprint on the Hong Kong people. This is shown by the fact
that the people of Hong Kong enjoy watching horse races,
hang out in clubs, and eat international food.
An example of Hong Kong’s improvement is the Peninsula
Hotel. In 1928, The Peninsula Hotel was created near the port
so that there is a luxurious place for rich people to stay in once
they arrived through ocean liners. Today, it has changed and
you can easily notice the difference from what it was and what
it is now. A large improvement between the old and the new is
that there is a tall 30-storey back tower built into the rear of

its distinctive “throne” shape.

temperature in August is 21 – 27 degrees
Celsius (70 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit). And
the average precipitation yearly is more
than 80 inches (More than 300
centimeters).

Hokanji Temple’, the flower symbol ‘The
Weeping Cherry Blossom’, the tree
symbol ‘The Kitayama Sugi’, and the fish

Bogota is the capital of Colombia located in the
North part of South America. The population of
Bogota is about 7.19 million people all across
Bogota, but the whole Metropolitan area (Bogota,
Medellin, Cali in the middle of all of them) is about
8.25 million people. The city lies nearly two miles
above sea water (data recorded in 2007). The
weather and climate is usually cold and cloudy
about 55 degrees F and 13 degrees C. In winter the
tips of the mountains are covered in snow but the
main city is not. The main symbol of Bogota is
three stripes, yellow top, blue middle, and bottom
red with a big brown eagle in the middle. The main
and only language in Bogota is Spanish. The main
religion is Roman Catholic. Some traditions and
Customs in Bogota are Easter week which is Palm
Sunday, Maundy, Thursday, Good Friday and
Ascension. There are other holidays like Christmas
and Halloween that are still celebrated the same.
Some other holidays in Bogota are Carnival, St.
Josephs, and Independence Day on July 20th. Some
common landmarks are Bolivar Plaza, Tequendama
Falls, La Candelana, and the Gold Museum. The
topography of Bogota is mostly the main city
surrounded by lakes, rivers, tropical jungles and
forests.
In the 1920’s Bogota used to be one of the most
modern, safe cities in Colombia and a big adding
center for coffee and other products. At night it was
safe for kids to go out and play in the
neighborhoods and there wasn’t much need for
security. The streets were clean and full of people
and crime was very low. The government had no
problem handling the law.
In the beginning of 1950 some people that had
almost nothing in life turned against the
government and joined rebel groups thinking they
could “help” the people. Drug cartels started to
expand and hired more and more people to fight for
them.
Rebel groups started to kill and kidnap people by
planting bombs around the cities to cause terror. It
also influenced more people to create rebel groups,
some groups fought for land or money and some
groups fought just to destroy the government. Drug
cartels started sending tons of ships loaded with
drugs to U.S. starting a war between the cartels and
the U.S. government. When drug cartels,
paramilitary groups, rebels and mercenaries joined
forces to create the terrorist group, F.A.R.C
(Armed, Revolutionary, Forces of Colombia) (in
English) some of the following events happened:

Long ago about 500 years ago the Muiscas moved to Colombia for resources such as food, gold,
natural minerals, wool and a chance to create a new community/establishment. When the Spaniards
moved to Colombia they took the Muisca’s land and gold and made it their land. The Spanish
people created a bigger establishment that spread all across the borders of Colombia, and named
their capital city, Bogota.
People moved to Bogota for jobs, land/place to live, and education. In the past people from around
the world moved to Colombia mostly for resources like oil, rocks like emerald, sapphire, and
farming and cattle jobs. They also moved to improve their new land and making it safer and better.
Today there are people moving to Bogota everyday from America, Europe, Asia and other countries
from South America and around the world for jobs, better hospitals, better education, land, and
food.
The main industries/companies today are clothing, textile, cement, food, automakers, commercial,
banking and farming. People choose to live in Bogota because it’s a good trading center, and there is
a wide variety of jobs.
Today there are about 7.4 million people living in Bogota at the moment most of them work at
political jobs or commercial jobs. Most of the men/adults must join the army after high school and
serve the military for a year. Ninety – five percent are Roman Catholic and more than half of the
population are Bogotanos.
Most people today move to Bogota for a job that gives them enough money to live. Most people live
in the suburbs and work at banks, commercial businesses, political and financial jobs. They also
come for the variety of places to live, not only houses but buildings, penthouses and farms across the
mountains.

A woman named Luz Cruz who now lives in the Philippines with
her children, but lived mostly in Bogota tells us about a typical day
in Bogota. “In a normal Saturday would go with my friends to La
Zona Rosa for some shopping and lunch.” “We would meet at one
of the restaurants and have a typical lunch of Arepas with butter,
bean soup, chorizo and corn.” Luz is a fan of shopping so she likes
looking around the clothes part of Zona Rosa and buy her self a
purple dress made from silk and a handbag made of sea shells. Luz
likes to keep up with today’s fashion.

started creating a city. The Spanish people arrived in 1499 and created a establishment which in 1886
it was turned into a city named Bogota, Capital of the Republic of Colombia.
Today Bogota is filled with skyscrapers, buildings, roads, highways, shopping malls, stores, houses
and cars everywhere. Places like the Colombian cathedral in Bogota are still kept.

is that in the one in the left the cathedral was surrounded by trees and grass fields while in the photo of
today the ground was covered in cement and the tress where cut down.
The main thing I have learned about the landscape change of Bogota is that when the land was turned
into houses and buildings people moved in with their families and businesses/companies and as more
people moved in from different countries the land was expanded more and more until it became a big
city and the capital of a country.

Things Not To Miss
The National Gold Museum: The museum is located in the
suburbs of Bogota and is open all week from nine am until eight
pm. It contains over 30,000 ancient artifacts and most of them
are over 1,500 years old.
Salt mines in Zipaquira: They are located under the church in
the small town of Zipaquira. The mines go on for thousands of
miles and the tunnels are completely covered in salt crystals.
Bolivar plaza: Is a small plaza/park where people can go to walk
around and eat something. They can also visit the old church
from 1807 or look at the Bolivar statue of Simon Bolivar. It is
also a excellent sight seeing and very modern restaurants and
shops.

get to the top there are two choices, you can take the cable

known restaurant that is just 40 minutes away from Bogota,

and the food is amazing as well as the service and the
decorations inside looks like a palace with little things filling
every space inside and everything is recycled!
Zona rosa (shopping and restaurants): Neighborhood in Bogota

In the year 1925, Martin Place used to be
just an area with buildings and carriages. A
few years after the Commercial Bank
Company who lives at the end of Martin
Place was joined by the Bank of New South
Whales. They both decided to build a new
Martin Place. Martin place soon turned in
to a Pedestrian Plaza in 1969, and
upgraded in 1999. The GPO is still a
landmark but the cars and cabs are all
gone. Martin Place began to change, the
buildings are bigger and taller, there are
stoplights, fountains, restaurants, and
more. Martin Place was improved and was
opened in 1978. The people who changed
Martin Place wanted to make more
buildings for others to stay in or they could
build buildings for people to work in.
Martin Place is different from before but
there is one thing no one changed. As you
can see the old clock tower still stands from
a long time ago. The old clock tower would
be a reminder of the day Martin Place
improved. And now the tower is a
landmark and Martin Place became
famous, which attracted more people.

would be including legal and illegal residents (2009). So it is the home of many
people, the major nationalities are Russian (Muscovites) and the Israeli (Jews).
The major industries and businesses today include, Cooper Industries,
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kei Company. Some reasons why people live
in Moscow is because they have a wide variety of excellent schools with high
standards. There are plenty of jobs, the city has a lot of twins/sisters and lastly
as I have said the energy of Moscow is “overwhelming”. Therefore Moscow is
now a city with almost everything you need, all it needs is you.

It’s Time for New York City!!

Have you ever been or seen New York? If you haven’t, then you haven’t
seen beautiful yet. New York is like a dream land with lots of awesome things.
Business and economy is booming there, rich culture and artifacts rest there
and high technological gears are everywhere! New York is like a big pot of
soup with a lot of ingredients. There are different races of people living there,
so there is a big mix of culture there. The people in New York are like busy
ants working hard. However, it’s not just busy. It has lots of famous landmarks
and fun things to do. For example, there is the Statue of Liberty, Empire State
Building, Times Square, etc. Also, there tons of famous brands settled in New

remains from the burns.
Manhattan was in chaos, and a

due to the clean up. Two years
after this incident, America
declared a war against Iraq. The
U.S received help from the UN,
UK, Korea, Italy, Australia, etc. in
2003; the American troops
managed to capture Hussein, the
one responsible for the attack
and executed him. Because of
9/11, over 3000 people died
(including soldiers), the U.S had a
war with Iraq, and Manhattan is
now in a huge mess, with a big
construction site.

9/11. You can see that the twin towers (the tallest two buildings)
are missing. That is because AL QAEDA, a terrorist group lead by
Osama Bin Laden attacked the twin towers and burnt them down. The

This change of landscape had a huge effect on New York. Some
of the effects were that 3000 people died from this attack,
