Workmanship procedure
Surface preparation: - The deposition such as heep of mud or vegetation cover present in the work
site should be removed.
Excavating earth material with a lead of 30m and a lift of 1.5m
Sharp finishing of trench is done after the completion of excavation ie the trenches should be truly
vertical.
Finishing of trench bed: - Any undulation over the trench bed should be removed of and that trench
bed made perfectly uniform.
Dimensions: - The dimensions of the trench are to be measured and these dimensions should be in
accordance with the work specification.

1Cement should be free from lumps of unslaked lime and any kinds of grids should not be present in
the cement stock. As much as possible avoid the usage of cement from the old stock.
2 Sand: The sand should be river sand and should be free from organic impurities and delatrious
material& should pass through 4.2mm IS sieve. Any kind of boulders or grids should not be present
in the sand used for preparing a concrete mix.
3. Aggregates: Coarse aggregates retained on 4.75mm IS sieve. It shall be hard, strong, dense
durable, clean & free from adherent coatings. It should not contain harmful materials like coal, silica,
clay, etc. it should be angular shape.
SSM (Sized stone masonry) in CM 1:6: - stones should be free from organic impurities & dust
particles. Should be possed adequate crushing strength.
Workmanship producer:
Vertical laying of stone: - The vertical laying of stones is ensured by suspending the plumb bob. The
face of the stone should be truly vertical to the ground.
Placing of bond stones: - Bond stones should be provided throughout the entire with of a masonry
wall. Bond stones should be provided of regular throughout the height of masonry.
Quions:- Should be placed in the appropriate location. Then joint thickness should not exceed 20mm
& racking of joints should be done to a depth of 15mm.
Tools & plants: - Trowels, threads, plumb bod, Some automatic mixing equipment’s.
Dimensioning:- After end of curing the dimensions are measured & these dimensions should be in
accordance with the certification given in the drwgs.
Workmanship producer:
The dry mixture of the concrete is prepared according to the mix proportion & water is added to the
this mix proportion according to the ratio. The quantity of water should be according to the quality
of potable water.
For this wet mixture of the concrete , is added at a rate of 1kg/cement bag. The measurement of the
materials will be dump by using guage boxes in the site. The mixture of DPC is laid over the plinth for
the thickness of 2.5cm to 4cm.
Before application of DPC , the plinth area is thoroughly cleaned & is made wet.
Dimensioning :- the dimensions are measures in site should be in accordance with specifications
given in the plan.
Workmanship producer:
Soaking of bricks- it should be soaked under water for 4 hrs before they are put in use.
The bricks are laid such that the face of the brick is perfectly normal to the ground & the vertically of
a masonry is verified by using plumb bob.
The quoins are to be placed in the appropriate locations.
The joint thickness of the brick masonry should not exceed 15mm.
Raking of the joint can be done through a length of 15mm.
Scaffolding :-Appropriate scaffolding is to be provided for the completion of brick masonry.
Curing is done for a period of one week.
Dimensioning:- is measured in the site , should be in accordance with the specification given in the
plan.
Preparation of mortar:- The materials shall be at first mixed dry thoroughly till uniform in color in the
required proportion and then shall be mixed wet adding water slowly and gradually for at least four
Preparation of surface:-The surface of the wall shall be brushed, cleaned, washed, watered and
wetted with water before plastering. To ensure uniform thickness of plaster as specified, narrow
strips about 10cm wide plaster shall be applied first a distance of about 1m centers and gaps
between such strips shall immediately be filled up with mortar.
Laying: - The plastering shall be started from the top and worked towards the ground. The whole
surface shall be made flush with wooden straight edges and rubbed thoroughly with wooden floats
to ensure an even surface.
Thickness of plastering shall be specified usually 12mm in two or three coats.
For ideal work, three coats of plastering are applied.
First coat of 10mm, the floating or second coat of 10mm, and finishing coat of 5-6mm, having a total
minimum thickness of 20mm.
Curing :- Plastering shall be kept wt by sprinkling water after 12hours for at least 7 days and shall be
protected from rain or sun.
6.Write the detail technical specification for wood works ( Doors & windows)
The timber shall be of the kind as specified may be teak, shisham, sal, deodar, etc.
The timber shall be of the best quality, well seasoned & free from sap, knots, warps, cracks and
other defects.
All joints shall be neat and strong, truly and accurately and glued before being fitted together.
Frames (Chaukhats) : The members of the frames are joined by mortise tenon & joint with hard
wooden pins.
The joints shall be coated with white lead before being fitted together.
The frames shall of the sections 75mm X 100mm, 100mm X 100mm, 80mmx120mm etc.
The concealed faces of frames shall be painted with two coats of coaltar and other faces shall be
painted with prime coat before fixing in position.
Shutters ( Joinery) :- The shutters may be paneled, glazed, part glazed & part paneled as specified.
The thickness of the shutter shall be as specified ( 3-5cm)
The styles, rails & panels shall be neatly and truly finished to the exact dimensions.
The styles and rails shall be framed properly and accurately with mortise n tenon joint.
The thickness of panels – 12 – 25mm as specified.
All rails over 15cm in width shall have double tenon.
For glazed windows sash bars shall not be less than 40mm x 40mm and glasses shall be fixed with
nails and putty or with wooden beadings over felt as specified.
Fittings :- All doors shall be provided with handles on both sides and windows with handles on the
inner side.
Necessary hinges, tower bolts, hook bolts, stops for keeping shutters open, and also wooden blocks
to prevent shutters striking the jambs of wall etc. shall be provided.
The fittings maybe iron, brass as specified of approved quality.
Screws shall be of suitable lengths and correct diameter.
The number of coats shall be as specified in new work—one priming coat and then two coats of
paints shall be applied.
Paint shall be applied with brushes evenly and smoothly by crossing and laying of in the direction of
grains of wood work and no brush marks should be visible.
Each coat shall be perfectly dry before the next is applied.
Before next coat is applied, the surface shall be rubbed with No zero sand paper-to give a smooth
and glazed surface.
The paint should be stirred in the container immediately before use.
Brushes should be cleaned and washed with turpentine at the end of the day’s work and kept dry.
If old paint is to be removed, -- it may be removed by washing with soda water or with caustic soda
and scrapping or by using any patent remover.
After removing the paint, the surface should be dried and rubbed with sand paper and smoothened
before paint is applied.
In old painted surface if paint is not required to be removed but required repainting,--
The surface should be washed with soap water and then paint shall be applied.
Heavy duty vitrified unpolished porcelain floor tiles for exterior use shall be of 1st quality. Heavy
duty vitrified tiles shall be acid and alkali resistant, weather proof, anti skid and abrasion resistant as
per International Standard for ceramic tiles ISO :13006
These tiles shall comply with. the following requirements:
(a) Water absorption35 N/Sqmm
(b) Flexural Strength>35 N/Sqmm
(c) Moh's Hardness>6
(d) Abrasion resistance
Heavy duty vitrified tiles shall be of sizes, colour, texture and designs as indicated but size if not
indicated it shall be of 300mm x 300 mm . The thickness shall be as specified by the manufacturer.
1 Bedding
The screed bed for laying Vitrified Porcelain Tiles shall be of cement and sand mortar as indicated.
Bedding over which the tiles shall be laid shall not be less than 10mm at any place.
.2 Laying
Base concrete or RCC slab shall be cleaned and wetted. The bedding shall then be laid evenly over
the surface, tamped and corrected to desired levels and allowed to harden enough to offer a rigid
