Class trip to recycling centre

This class trip report will illustrate the knowledge students obtained through visiting the plastic
recycling centre and also shares some suggestions as a reference for another trip.

Activity learning

Our main purpose of this trip is to arouse students’ awareness of environmental protection. To
attain this goal, activity learning was the highlighted in the itinerary, in the case that experience of
processing in-degradable plastics, such as separating bottle cap, body and label helped them to
cultivate good habits. Therefore, they won’t throw bottles immediately after this lesson. In some
extent, it carried out successfully, I was shocked by the amount of waste plastics in the centre,
which is generated in our daily life, since I haven’t seen plastic bottles in such enormous quality.

improvement

Only a fly in the ointment was that students were not fully engaged in the activities. There were
few employees in the centre who were familiar with all the equipment involved in the flow.
However, students were not allowed to communicate with them unless they applied to their
teachers, which was lack of efficiency. Moreover, some students were moved by the employees’
hard work, so they were asking the access to become an unpaid volunteer on the way back to
school. Considering the limiting information provided, teachers could not relied to them. The key
to solve this kind of problem is to hire a staff who is needed to elaborate the principles of
processing and solving students’ questions. It is remembered that the greater function of a school
trip is not so much to require students to work as to teach them things.

Overall, this trip was enjoyable for all the students. If the school would like it to become more
educational next year, it might be a good idea to employ a commentator for students.
