Practice Problems on Variable Motion

1. A car moves along a straight line whose equation of motion is given by s = 12t + 3t2 –
2t3, where (s) is in metres and (t) is in seconds. Calculate (i) velocity and acceleration
at start, and (ii) acceleration, when the velocity is zero.

2. A particle has a displacement from point O given by s = t 3 – t2 + 4 t.Where s is in

metres and t is time in seconds.Find the displacement from point O, velocity and
acceleration of the particle at time t = 2 s.

3. A body starting from rest, moves along a straight line with an acceleration whose
equation is given by : a= 4 – t2/9 where a is in m/s2 and t in seconds. Find (a)
velocity after 6 seconds, and (b) distance traversed in 6 seconds.
