Problem How it Happened
Schedule Problems The Filming days didn’t go as
planned, the weather was terrible
on almost every day that we had
scheduled and so we had to then
film around them, this led to actor
issues. The rain led to the
equipment being risked for water
damage and the actors had to work
around their own projects.
Costume Issues The actors dropped out half way
through filming and so we had to
source more costumes from them
that would fit them, however once
we had the original actors back on
the film, we then had to give the
costumes back which resulted in a
big confusion with who was actually
going to be in the film.
Group Problems We had problems within our group.
Harley was wasting time on filming
days by messing around and
dragging out filming different
scenes, he wanted his scenes done
first and so he spent all his time
doing that. It was difficult to work
around him and he caused a lot of
problems on the filming days.
Filming Issues During filming we weren’t able to
use the audio because they weren’t
synced up at all. It was difficult to
use the audio and find specific parts
because the audio recordings were
longer than the actual footage
recordings. This led to use removing
large sections of footage just so the
narrative would make sense.
Editing Issues The editing went horrendously as
Harley was so extremely stubborn
that it had to be finished his way. He
didn’t allow any group decisions to
be made at all and so he attempted
to complete the edit in his own time
and wasn’t able to get it done as he
spent way too much time on sound.
The Solution
We had to arrange replacement transport for
the replacement actors that had to turn up.
Then when we had the replacement actors
sorted, we didn’t actually need them so we
used the original actors that we had planned
to use. The locations were only changed
around on different days and so we didn’t
need to replace the locations. This was good
for us as we were limited with transport.
We had to contact everyone that we had
planned on being in the film and then call
them and ask if they could be in it still. We
found alternative ways of transport for the
actors and other ways of transport to and
from Weston. I found ways of getting the
actors there as it was easier to ask my brother
for a lift. He told us he was able to so we all
made our own way to Weston and back.
I worked around it by just filming his scenes
first and telling him to chill out whenever he
didn’t get on with his lines. It was frustrating
at times but I managed to work around it by
doing the other scenes first and asking the
other actors to fill in on certain scenes. The
filming days were almost wasted at times
because of him wasting time but I managed to
be able to work and get some good footage.
I worked around this issue by removing
sections of film and just adding other parts
that we had previously filmed late on in the
week. It was a struggle to then match those
scenes up in the edit as I had to try and hide
the change in scenery. It worked out well in
the end as you can’t really notice it but for me
and my group it is very noticeable. I am glad
though that it wasn’t picked up on.
Throughout the editing week we had to film,
no reshoots were needed and so we were able
to focus on the edit for a few days. I was only
able to edit for the last 45 minutes before the
deadline and salvaged as much as I could of
the original film. It didn’t turn out amazingly
but it was a finished film and so I am happy
with the end result, even if it meant sacrificing
my own screen-time for the sake of the film.
