Kadai Prawns: Tasty Starter Recipe

Wondering what to make for the sudden guests at your home. Have they informed you at the
last minute, and you have very few ingredients?

Well, here we are with a fantastic five-star starter recipe that will leave your guests craving for
more. They will surely end up asking for the recipe and the secret to such a wonderful dish.

A flavorful plump prawns cooked in aromatic spices with the right blend of taste and delicacy.

Get set go with one of the scrumptious Kadai prawn recipes. Try to get fresh prawns for this
recipe as they will enhance the taste further.

What Do You Need?

Main Ingredients:

● 250 Grams of jumbo prawns (Make sure to deshell and devein the prawns)
● Mustard oil

Marination Ingredients:

● 2 tbsp of ginger garlic paste


● 1/2 tbsp of red chili powder
● 1/2 tbsp of turmeric
● salt as per the taste
● 1 small-sized lime juice

Kadai Ingredients:

● 1 bay leaf
● 2 whole dried red chilies
● 1 tsp of cumin seeds
● 1 medium-sized tomato roughly chopped
● 1 whole medium-sized pearl onion
● 1 big onion thinly sliced
● 1 medium-sized green bell pepper roughly chopped
● 1/2 tsp of red chili powder
● 1/2 tsp of coriander powder
● 1/2 tsp of cumin powder
● 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
● 1/2 tsp of Kasturi methi
● 1 tbsp of tomato paste
● 1 tbsp of garam masala powder
● 1 tbsp of Kadai masala powder - 2 tbsp Coriander seeds, 2 tbsp cumin seeds, 8 whole
black peppercorns, 2 tbsp fennel seeds, 2 tbsp green cardamom powder, 2 tbsp black
cardamom powder, 6-8 whole Cloves, 2 pieces of whole Dry Kashmiri red chilies, 2-3
whole bay leaves. Dry roast all of the spices and then coarsely grind them in the mortar
& pestle. You can store this mixture in an airtight container for future dishes. This Kadai
masala powder goes with the majority of the Kadai dishes.
● 8-10 thinly sliced ginger Julian pieces

Detailed Process:

1. Marinate the jumbo prawns using all the marination ingredients. Let it sit in this
marination for at least 30 minutes.
2. Take a pan, add oil, and heat it on full flame.
3. Now, lower the heat to medium and shallow fry the prawns till they turn golden brown.
Take out the prawns from the oil and keep them aside.
4. Now, add some more mustard oil and heat the oil in full flame.
5. Once the oil is hot, reduce the flame to medium. Add bay leaf, dried red chili, and cumin
seeds.
6. Allow them to sizzle for 10 seconds.
7. Add onion and saute till the onions turn pinkish and transparent. You can add salt at this
point to fasten the cooking process.
8. Add tomatoes and saute them on medium flame. You can cover and cook the tomatoes
till they become mushy.
9. Add the powdered spices - turmeric, coriander, red chili, and cumin powder. Mix all of
them and let them fry on medium flame
10. Add the already fried prawns and mix them evenly with the masala for 3-5 minutes on
medium flame.
11. Add green bell peppers, pearl onions, and Julian ginger, and give everything a good mix.
12. Add homemade Kadai masala after 2-3 minutes and then mix everything once more.
13. Finally, garnish with Kasuri methi and garam masala.
Give it 2-3 minutes of resting time, and then serve it hot with chapati. You can easily store this
Kadai prawn in the freeze for 4 days in an airtight container.
