NURSING INTERVENTION

 Establish rapport
- To gain trust and cooperation of the client

 Monitor and record vital sign


- To obtain baseline data.

 Assess the client’s knowledge level and area of concern.


- To determine the client’s knowledge, readiness to learn and individual
learning needs.

 Encourage patient to continue active exercises for the joints above and below the fracture.
- To prevent joint stiffness, contractures, and muscle wasting, promoting
earlier return to independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).
 Recommend cleaning external fixator regularly.
- Keeping the device free of dust and contaminants reduces the risk of
infection.
 Discuss care of “green” or wet cast.
- It promotes proper curing to prevent cast deformities and associated
misalignment and skin irritation.
 Discuss the importance of well-balanced diet in maintaining healthy bones and encourage
eating foods rich in vitamin D and calcium such as fortified milk, cereals, green leafy
vegetables.
- To maintain hydration and promote healthy bones and Vitamin D help to
absorb calcium

 Discuss activity restriction and length of time they will be in place.


- To prevent injury.
 Maintained side rails up
- To prevent fall and any further injuries.
