Establish rapport

Encourage patient to continue active exercises for the joints above and below the fracture.
- To prevent joint stiffness, contractures, and muscle wasting, promoting
earlier return to independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).
Recommend cleaning external fixator regularly.
- Keeping the device free of dust and contaminants reduces the risk of
infection.
Discuss care of “green” or wet cast.
- It promotes proper curing to prevent cast deformities and associated
misalignment and skin irritation.
Discuss the importance of well-balanced diet in maintaining healthy bones and encourage
eating foods rich in vitamin D and calcium such as fortified milk, cereals, green leafy
vegetables.
- To maintain hydration and promote healthy bones and Vitamin D help to
absorb calcium
