Questions My Professor Asked Me

Most Important Course

The most important course in the business school is Introduction to Management

Information Systems. The cost of integrated circuitry which forms the base of Information

Technology is less expensive than the carboard box it comes in, and this caused an increase in

the use of this technology, and thus, more jobs in the IT field. (Google, 1965) “Future business

professionals need to be able to assess, evaluate, and apply emerging information technology to

business.” (Kearne, 2014). It will give you the background you need, it can give you definitive

job security in the form of marketable skills by helping you learn abstraction, systems thinking,

collaboration, and experimentation. (Kearne, 2014) Many MIS-related jobs are available, and the

market for them will enjoy strong growth; if you want to position yourself well in the job market,

choosing MIS is the way to go. What other business school class compares with MIS- many

people would answer that question with accounting.

Accounting More Important

Accounting is necessary because it is needed to comply with the law, to show a company

how it is performing and it is the “language of business”; however, even accounting must bow its

head to IT. Accountants could not do their job without technology; computers and accounting

software have changed the industry completely. (CPA Practice Advisor, 2018)) Technologies are

always progressing and according to the American Institute of CPAs, anyone who wants to

become a Certified Public Accountant must keep up with emergent technologies. (AICPA, 2018)

As technology has revolutionized business, so it has transformed accounting, and without it,

accountants would be using abacuses. It’s ITs job to make sure that their abacuses have

multiprocessing computers with 64bit software until the next innovation.

Hire, Train and Manage People

Innovation is the current paradigm in business and a manager needs the technology tools

to provide that innovation in managing people, and in increasing the success of the company.

Great managers are balanced between good people skills and good technical skills, and

developing these skills in the people they manage. (Bizmanualz, 2018). While it might have

seemed reasonable in an era of slower change to put the onus on the individual to maintain his or

her currency, firms today must make it their business to counter this leakage. (Harvard Business

Review, 2018) So to stay competitive, managers must innovate, and to innovate they must keep

up with the current technology. Until something different and new comes along, Information

Systems will remain the single dominant factor in business.

Single Factor

There is no other single factor of positive effect that is greater than the impact of

Information Systems on business. However, there are many negative factors that are greater,

such as an EMP attack over the United States which could kill off 90% of Americans; these are

not within the scope of this document. Moving forward, everyone in a company will require

more knowledge and proficiency in IT, including spreadsheets, web development, graphic design

programs, and Web 2.0 savvy like Google Analytics. (Trikha, R, 2018) Until the day that the

robots take over and technology replaces human labor faster than we discover new jobs, and

maybe especially then, we will have to keep up with new technology as it emerges, or take up a

hobby. (Harvard Business Review, 2018). No one predicted where we would be now, but we can

be sure the future will be different, and it behooves us to change ourselves so that we go with

that change.
