Mogadishu, 2nd June, 2021— The African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM,
yesterday joined Kenya to celebrate Madaraka Day. 1st June 1963, commemorates
the day when Kenya attained self-rule after being a British colony since 1920.

African nations have travelled from colonialism to Independence. We are also
reminded of our common destiny that, together, we can make meaningful progress
towards peace and prosperity. In AMISOM, we celebrate and thank the brave men
and women of Kenya for their continued contribution to the African Union’s effort to
help create peace, security and stability to Somalia,” Ambassador Madeira said.

their country by being dedicated to their roles.
