1. Semantics studies linguistic meaning or internal meaning, while pragmatics studies
the speker’s meaning or meaning in speakers and is external in relation to context. In
other words, semantics learns the literal meaning of an idea, whereas pragmatics is
the implied meaning of a given idea.

- Truth-conditional Vs non-truth-conditional meaning, semantics relates to aspects of
conventional meaning, namely that there is a constant relationship between
meaning and form and semantics related to meaning descriptions so that it is said
that semantics takes a formal approach by focusing on phoneme forms, morphemes,
words, phrases, clauses and sentences. While pragmatics deals with aspects that
take context into account, dealing with aspects of meaning that didn’t look up, but
worked out on certain usage events. Therefore prsgmstic is said to take a functional
approach.

3. If the licus and illocutionary acts emphasize the role of the speaker’s actions, the
perlocution act emphasizes more on how the speech parthner responds. This speech
act is a communication activity( locus of action) which contains the intent to be
conveyed when speaking (the illocutionary power of speech) and the effect desired
by the speaker ( the perlocution of speech). Or locusions are speech actsbin the form
of meaningful and understandable sentences, illocution is a speech act that is usually
identified with explicit performative sentences and perlocutionary is a speech act
that can influence speech partners.
