LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

For Grade 9
(Quarter 3 – Week 3)
Prepared by:
Aaron L. Asne
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area.
II. Subject Matter
Climate and factors affecting the climate
Reference: Science 9 Learner’s Module, pp. 182 – 194
DepEd: Pasig City, First Edition, 2014
Materials
Handouts made by High School Teachers
Book
III. Procedure
A. Preparation
 Greetings
 Checking of prior knowledge
B. Motivation
The tutor will give an activity to the learner which is a word puzzle. The learner
will answer the word puzzle with the help of the given clues.
C. Lesson Proper
The tutor will discuss what the climate is and the factors that affect the climate,
such as the distance from the equator, altitude of a place, surrounding bodies of
water, topography and ocean currents.
D. Application
The student will answer the activity 1 entitled “When the Sun’s Rays Strike” and
the activity 2 entitled “Which should I choose, Windward or Leeward” together
with the guide questions in each activity.
IV. Evaluation
On your science notebook, read each direction and answer what is asked.
For numbers 1 to 5, write agree if the statement is correct and disagree if the statement is
wrong.
1. ___________The coldest places on the Earth found near the poles receive less
amount of heat.
2. ___________The area in which the wind blows is the windward.
3. ___________In northern hemisphere, the current flow is in counter clockwise
direction.
4. ___________Ocean currents that take along warm water to coastal areas makes
the climate cold.
5. ___________Places that are far from the bodies of water have extreme climates,
as there are no immediate bodies of water that will help to circulate the movement
of cold water and air.
For numbers 6 to 10, choose the letter of the correct answer.
6. How does the windward side differ from leeward side of a high land?
a. The windward receives more precipitation than the leeward.
b. The leeward side has more vegetation than the windward side.
c. The windward side receives more heat than the leeward side.
d. The leeward side receives more precipitation than the windward side.
7. What happens to the temperature of air when altitude increases?
a. Remains the same c. Decreases
b. Increases d. Varies
8. Which of the following best describes the climate?
a. The weather that occurs in the atmosphere within a day.
b. The pattern of weather that occurs in a region over a long period of time.
c. The pattern of weather that occurs in a region over a short period of time.
d. The disturbance in the atmosphere that happens in a long period of time.
9. Why are the coldest places on earth found at the poles?
a. Great amount of gaseous particles trap heat from the surface.
b. Great amount of thermal radiations is received by these areas.
c. Less amount of thermal radiation id received by these areas.
d. Less amount of gaseous particles trap heat from the surface.
10. City A is surrounded by bodies of water and has a moderate climate. It is located
near the equator. What will most likely affect the climate of the city?
a. Latitude
b. Altitude
c. Topography
d. All of these
V. Assignment
