What is Green Building?
Green building is the practice of designing, constructing, and operating
buildings to:
 Minimize resource use
 Reduce waste and negative environmental impacts
 Maximize occupant health and productivity
 Decrease life cycle costs

A green building:
 Makes efficient use of land, materials, energy, and water
 Generates minimal or no waste
 Provides a healthy indoor environment for its occupants
 Restores, improves, or enhances the natural environment
Why Green Building Important?

 The most important benefit of green building is that which it offers to our
environment.
 It positively influences our climate and overall ecosystem by reducing water use
and energy sources that pollute our environment such as coal and carbon
dioxide discharged into the atmosphere.
 The local environment, but those working and living inside the buildings can
enjoy healthier atmospheres, free of unnecessary pollution and waste.
The Benefits of Green Building

 The benefits of green building can range from environmental to economic to

social.
 By adopting greener practices, we can take maximum advantage of
environmental and economic performance. Green construction methods when
integrated while design and construction provide most significant benefits.

 Benefits of green building include:

i. Environmental Benefits
ii. Economic Benefits
iii. Social Benefits
Environmental Benefits :
 Reduce wastage of water
 Conserve natural resources
 Improve air and water quality
 Protect biodiversity and ecosystems
Economic Benefits :
 Reduce operating costs
 Improve occupant productivity
 Create market for green product and services
Social Benefits :
 Improve quality of life
 Minimize strain on local infrastructure
 Improve occupant health and comfort
INTRODUCTION

 The Green Energy Office Building is a research building and a

research project for Green Tech Malaysia. The design intent of the
project was that this building should be a Zero Energy Office
Building or Zero Building.
 The building will consume no more electricity that what can be
produced via the buildings integrated Solar PV system.
 The energy used by the building is counter balanced by the
amount of energy generated by its own renewable energy power
generated system.

Roof Light /
Sky Light
Roof Light / Sky Light

 Roof lights are effective at allowing natural light deep into the centre of a building,
particularly where it is not possible to install windows in perimeter walls or where
privacy is needed.
 It can also be effective at promoting natural ventilation, as tend to be at the top
of buildings and so can benefit from the stack effect.
 Some roof lights however can be seen as a poor design solution, contributing little
to the architectural form of a building and simply creating a hole in a roof
because without them there would be insufficient natural light.

block.
Insulate interior from external heat using
Mineral Wool Foam and Aerated Concrete
Block
Aerated Concrete Block
 The composition of the aerated concrete block includes a cement-lime mixture, a foaming
agent, which is most commonly used aluminium powder.
 To increase the strength of this cellular material, the finished blocks are held under high
pressure and temperature.
 Air bubbles inside give a certain level of insulation, but still have to insulate the building at
least outside.
Mineral Wool Foam
 Mineral wool is a great raw material that is also well-suited for home insulation.
 It requires much more work, time and experience.
 The insulation of external walls to be made flawlessly using mineral wool, it must ensure that
the work is done by the best professionals on the market.
Efficient AHU with
Variable Speed
Drive (inverter)
Efficient AHU with Variable Speed Drive
(Inverter)

 Variable speed drive (VSD) technology can be introduced in heating,

ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
 Normally sized for peak load conditions, to match actual load requirements.
 The paper presents a detailed assessment of the impact of the application of
VSDs to HVAC components in a public building.
 As regards the electricity consumption of pumping and fans, the investigation
has pointed out the achievement of a global annual energy saving of 38.9%
in comparison with the alternative of a constant speed HVAC system.
Radiant cooling
air conditioning
system
Radiant Cooling Air Conditioning System

 A radiant cooling system is a temperature-controlled surface that cools indoor

temperatures by removing sensible heat and where more than half of heat
transfer occurs through thermal radiation.
 Heat will flow from objects, occupants, equipment and lights in a space to a
cooled surface as long as their temperatures are warmer than that of the cooled
surface and they are within the line of sight of the cooled surface.
 The process of radiant exchange has a negligible effect on air temperature, but
through the process of convection, the air temperature will be lowered when air
comes in contact with the cooled surface.
Exterior
and interior
Exterior and Interior

 Exterior design would include, for example the design of your garden, deck and
patio.
 Interior design includes everything inside your home, from the bedrooms to the
kitchen and bathrooms.
 One factor to consider for exterior decorating for example is the appropriate fabrics
for outdoor furniture.
 One of the factors to consider for interior decorating for example is the placement of
furniture.

Reflective Mirror.
Double glazing windows with
Integrated Blinds (Daylight Window) and
Reflective Mirror
 Daylighting is the practice of placing windows, skylights, other openings, and reflective
surfaces so that sunlight (direct or indirect) can provide effective internal lighting.
 Particular attention is given to daylighting while designing a building when the aim is to
maximize visual comfort or to reduce energy use.
 Energy savings can be achieved from the reduced use of artificial (electric) lighting or
from passive solar heating.
 Artificial lighting energy use can be reduced by simply installing fewer electric lights
where daylight is present or by automatically dimming or switching off electric lights in
response to the presence of daylight – a process known as daylight harvesting.
