Act.4 PPLAB Inspection Bearing Assembly
Act.4 PPLAB Inspection Bearing Assembly
Act.4 PPLAB Inspection Bearing Assembly
NOTE: Follow established safety precautions and use personal protective equipment including eye
protection, hearing protection, face shield, gloves and protective clothing.
1. Inspect the bearing support for any visible signs of cracks and damages.
3. Inspect the Bearing support using a process of sending ultrasonic waves to check for metal
fatigue.
NOTE: Follow established safety precautions and use personal protective equipment including eye
protection, hearing protection, face shield, gloves and protective clothing.
1. When bearings are inspected, the appearance of the bearings should first be recorded and the
amount and condition of the residual lubricant should be checked. After the lubricant has been
sampled for examination, the bearings should be cleaned. In general, light oil or kerosene may be
used as a cleaning solution.
2. Dismounted bearings should first be given a preliminary cleaning followed by a finishing rinse.
Each bath should be provided with a metal net to support the bearings.
3. Check the bearing for any of the following defects. The determination to reuse a bearing
should be made only after considering the degree of bearing wear, the function of the machine,
the importance of the bearings in the machine, operating conditions, and the time until the next
inspection. However, if any of the following defects exist, reuse is impossible and replacement is
necessary.
(a) When there are cracks in the inner or outer rings, rolling elements, or cage.
(c) When there is significant smearing of the raceway surfaces, ribs, or rolling
elements.
(e) When there is rust or scoring on the raceway surfaces or rolling elements.
(f) When there are any significant impact or brinell traces on the raceway surfaces or
rolling elements.
(h) When significant damage to the seals or shields of grease sealed bearings has
occurred.
Debris
Bents or deformations
NOTE: if there are visible cracks found in the oil manifold assembly, replace is needed.
3. Check for nicks, dents and scratches. The Oil Manifold Assembly is serviceable at any number,
0.001 inch (0.03mm) deep, 0.007 inch (0.18 mm) wide and no visible sharp groves.
External Piping
NOTE: Follow established safety precautions and use personal protective equipment including eye
protection, hearing protection, face shield, gloves and protective clothing.
4. For performing an internal inspection, use a borescope equipment. Check for any of the
following defects.
Misshapes
Obstructions in pathway.
Check the seals and gaskets for any cracks and damages.
Fan Shaft
NOTE: Follow established safety precautions and use personal protective equipment including eye
protection, hearing protection, face shield, gloves and protective clothing.
1. Check for cracks in the outer surface and inner surface of the fan shaft.
2. Inspect for nicks, dents and scratches. The Fan Shaft is serviceable at any number, 0.001 inch
(0.03mm) deep, 0.007 inch (0.18 mm) wide and no visible sharp groves.
NOTE: Follow established safety precautions and use personal protective equipment including eye
protection, hearing protection, face shield, gloves and protective clothing.
1. Inspect for corners, any other visible openings, cracks and gaps that could cause air/oil leaks.
2. Use Pressurization test. This could increase infiltration through cracks and leaks, making them
easier to detect any visible signs.
3. Use a flashlight to see any potential gaps, Large cracks will show up as ray of lights. (this
method might not show detect small cracks and is only used to detect large cracks).
