Q1.What does conservation mean?

Answer: Conservation is the act of protecting Earth's natural resources for current and future
generations. It requires the sensible use of all Earth's natural resources: water, soil, minerals,
wildlife, and forests. People who care about conservation try to preserve natural resources so
they will still be around in the future.

Q2.Name the resources that we need to conserve.

Answer: Conservation is the practice of caring for these resources so all living things can benefit
from them now and in the future. All the things we need to survive, such as;
1. food
2. Water
3. Air
4. Shelter
5. Forests
6. land and soil
7. Flora and fauna
8. Habitats and biomes all these come from natural resources.

Q3. Why do we need to converse natural resources?

Answer: As the population of the world is increasing at an alarming rate, the consumption of
natural resources is also increasing. Hence, these resources should be conserved to maintain
ecological balance and save them for future generations. So that the resources of on our planet
do not run out completely and our future generation can also use them. The need to conserve
the resources is:
 To support life by supporting ecological balance
 To ensure that the future generations will be able to access the resources
 To preserve the biodiversity
 To make sure human race survives.
Q4: What do you mean by “targets of conservation”? Explain the three targets.

Answer: Target conservation is the purpose or aim for conserving resource for future use. Our
targets should be to:

1. Protect resources from waste and losses.


2. Protect them from changes that can cause injury, decay, waste, or loss and
3. Reduce their uses.
Q5: What are the three R’s means?

Answer: In order to keep as much material out of the landfill as possible, it’s important for each
of us to do our part. One of the ways to put that plan into action is through the 3 R’s of waste
management — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

1. Reduce means to cut back on the amount of trash we generate. Reduce the use
of resources. Use much as is needed. Although stationery items like papers and pencils,
and other paper products are easily available in the markets, avoid wasting them.

2. Reuse means to find new ways to use things that otherwise would have been
thrown out. Reuse and share resources instead of using fresh ones. For example, water
collected from air conditioners can be used for watering plants.

3. Recycle means to turn something old and useless (like plastic milk jugs) into
something new and useful (like picnic benches, playground equipment and recycling
bins. Recycle exciting products by converting them into useable products. Recycling
paper and paper products is the best example. Use the wood from old or broken
furniture to make a new instead of cutting down trees.

Q 6: What is water reduction? Why does it have to be beneficial?

Answer: Water Reduction: water reduction refers to cut down in the use of water in order to
conserve it. Water conservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary
water usage.

However it has to beneficial. For example, Rice field requires about 2-5 inches of standing
water. If a former decides to conserve water and reduce this amount to an inch or less, that
would destroy the crop, and instead of being beneficial, this water reduction would be
damaging.

Q7.What is the breakdown of the use of fresh water?

Answer: The break of the use of fresh water is 70% irrigation,22% for industry,8% domestic use.
