Palembang is the second largest city in Sumatera Island after Medan. And it is the
capital city of South Sumatera Province. Palembang is the oldest city in Sumatera
Island.

The history of Palembang which was once the capital of the largest Buddhist Maritime in
South East at the time, the kingdom of Sriwijaya who dominate the archipelago and the
Malay Peninsula in the 19th Century, also makes this city known as the nickname “Bumi
Sriwijaya”

As one of the big city in the province, Palembang is also keeps some of potential
destinations in town. One of them are Musi River, which is also becomes the signature
icon. The bridge that crosses on the musi river that connects the area Seberang Ulu
and Seberang Ilir, this is an icon of the city of Palembang.

Ladies and Gentlemen, now I’m going to tell you about some behavior of Palembang
citizen.

Some people in Palembang likes to eat pempek and cuko as their breakfast menu. Do
you know what is cuko? Cuko is a special sauce for pempek. It is made from water, java
sugar, tamarind, and lots of chili.

Second, some people in Palembang likes to eat using their hand. They say it taste
better when you eat using your hand.

Third, Palembang citizen likes to talk with loud voice but not to loud. It doesn’t meant
that they’re angry but its just their behavior.
