II- Think about It

Direction: Try to recall some of your strongest memories of exams and testing from your high school or
elementary years.
What were your most positive evaluation experiences? Describe. Conversely, what were the most negative
ones? Why?
The most positive evaluation I had was when I was being interviewed by Professor Sakit
during the PNUAT interview. During the interview, im so nervous that time because Prof. Sajot is in
very serious look. He asked a lot of questions about my personality and background. The most
funny in that time when he asked about my love life , he asked if I have a boyfriend and during that
time it's been a week since I broke up my boyfriend. After he heard that, he gave a lot of advice.
And I'm so impressed and happy. My nervousness slowly disappeared and I feel better.
The most negative one is when I was in senior high school , everytime our teachers
conduct an exam , Other takers are opening their phones to research, some open their notes .
Almost all of the characteristics of a good test are not present that time. I have nothing to do but to
be quiet and answer my own papers in my own. In that time, it so unfair for us who study hard to
pass the exam while others are cheated.

Are there adequate evaluation opportunities in all learning areas? Are there a variety of evaluation
processes used? What are these?
Yes, there are adequate evaluation opportunities in all learning areas. One can evaluate
someone or something through observation, interview and test. To evaluate the knowledge as well
as the skills of an individual, a thorough observation must be taken action. To evaluate the
capability of someone’s interpersonal skills, an interview must be conducted. And to assess
someone’s capacity, a test will be the best to conduct.
V. Formative Test
Direction: Read and answer the following questions carefully:
1. Define and explain the following terms briefly:
a. Measurement
It is the process of obtaining a numerical description of the degree to which an individual
possesses a particular characteristic. It is the number that shows the size or amount of something. Usually
the number is in reference to some standard measurement. Without the measurement, it would be hard to
conduct experiments or form theories.
b. Evaluation
It is the process of determining the extent to which the objectives are achieved. To evaluate is
defined as to judge the value or worth of someone or something. An example of evaluation is when a
teacher reviews a paper of his/her student to give it a grade and to draw conclusions from examining.
c. Test
It is a procedure intended to establish the quality, performance or reliability of something,
especially before it is taken into widespread use. In general, testing is finding out how well something or
someone work. It tells what level of knowledge or skill has been acquired.
d. Grading
Grade means “to evaluate or rank”, like teachers who grade their students about something. The
act of classifying something on a scale by quality, rank, size, or progression, etc. it is also the act of
assigning a mark or rating indicating achievement or the worth or work done.

2. Discuss briefly the different characteristics of good test. Give concrete examples.

Clarity of learning targets (knowledge, reasoning, skills, products, affects) - The teacher must have clarity in
the things that he/she wants to test in his/her students. An example for this is when the teacher is asked by
the student about the topic of the test. If the student is confused about the topic then it is the duty of the
teacher to enlighten the student about it. The target learning of the student must be clear to avoid
confusion.

Appropriateness of Assessment Methods- Teachers deals with diverse students with unique learning
strategies and capabilities. Thus if conducting a test, it should also be appropriate to the students capacity.
An example for this is when the teacher conducted a test for Dance Subject, the teacher must connect the
method of teaching to the subject.

Validity- It is one of the most critical thing that the teacher must observe in making a test since he/she will
connect the test based on what the students think of the test, the things that the teacher taught to the
student, and how does the test different from other test. An example for this is when the teacher conducted
a test in PE. He/she must observe a lot of things to make the test valid. Like is this tests content
proportional to what I teach to my student?

Reliability- Refers to the consistency of the test score. Errors of measurements are factors or conditions
that can contribute to the lowering of the test reliability. If the test has low reliability we can be assured that
errors of measurement have affected the test scores to the point that the test is unreliable. An example for
this is when the teacher made a test that has many errors. If that happens, will the test be reliable? Will the
student answer it?

Fairness- From the word itself “fair” the teacher must be fair in giving test to his/her students. The teacher
must avoid being bias in giving task and assessment to his/her students. An example is when a teacher
likes the student professionally because it is very dedicated and hardworking student. The student must not
be exempted or given extra credits because of that.

Positive Consequences- In conducting a test, the teacher must ensure that the outcome must have positive
consequences. The feedback must be positive and potentially improve the self-esteem of the student. An
example of this is the role playing type of test. This will boost the students’ self-esteem as well as help
him/her develop his/her interpersonal skills.

Practicality and Efficiency- Real life test can be easily administered by the student. Things that are practical
are efficient. Thus, this type of test will help the student become street smart. An example for this is when a
teacher in business subject conducted a test. He/she must ensure that the student can learn knowledge
about how real business really operates. In the test, the student must answer the things that a business
runs in real life.

Ethics- The test that are given to the student must be confidential. No student must be given privilege to
see the exam before the official time of test. An example of this is when the teacher pity his/her student
because mostly of his/her score in exam has failed. The teacher must avoid the temptation to assist the
student before or during the exam. Not unless the teacher will only teach the students the lessons or
personally tutor his/her student so that he/she can cope up and answer the test correctly.
